For decades, the achievement gap across White, Black, and Hispanic students has yet to be reduced, with White students consistently outperforming Black and Hispanic students on standardized mathematics assessments (National Assessment of Educational Progress, 2017). In order to reduce this gap, achievement motivation scholars have been studying the multifaceted ways in which cognitive factors may influence academic outcomes, especially for students who have traditionally been under-examined and underserved (Borman, & Overman, 2004; Borman & Dowling, 2010). Students are motivated to pursue education for various reasons and understanding those motivations can help administrators and faculty better serve graduate students who choose to participate in doctoral studies. This study analyzed qualitative data in an effor to better understand how student affairs administrators percieved thier motivations while discerning doctoral study in the field of Higher Education Administration (HEA). This research aims to fill a research gap by examining video games to explore whether gender, age, or hours played per week would exert any influence on the information of those who may or may not play video games. Mood Management Theory and Uses and Gratification Theory were used as the theoretical foundation for this study. Four-hundred-three East Tennessee State University students who received the survey via email were asked to voluntarily participate in a survey about their motivations behind playing video games. Instructor immediacy is an essential characteristic of effective instructors. Although instructional communication has done extensive research on the impact of immediacy behaviors on students, there is little available research observing immediacy behaviors as predictors of motivation on engineering students. As a result, this study examined the impact of engineering instructors’ use of immediacy behaviors on engineering students’ motivation. The results indicated that verbal immediacy predicted engineering student motivation. The thematic analysis revealed that when students perceived their instructors as helpful, students’ motivation to learn and ask more questions increased. Grassland restoration efforts in North America typically share the goal of improving ecological conditions for wildlife; however, it is unclear in many cases if goals are met. The South Dakota Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP) was initiated to alleviate agriculturally-related environmental degradation by converting 40,469 hectares of eligible cropland and marginal pastureland to perennial vegetation. The program aims to provide habitat for obligate grassland breeding songbirds, while producing an additional 285,000 pheasants and 60,000 ducks annually. Tornado activity annually results in many deaths throughout the U.S. As a result, the emergency alert system (including tornado warnings) has made considerable advancements throughout the past few decades. However, continued improvements could be made to warning content that aid to facilitate adaptive decision-making by increasing individuals’ motivation to respond. One method that could increase adaptive responses to warnings is by including the modality of descriptive social information within the warning. As the popularity of attending summer camps continues to rise, it is important that Camp Directors understand what motivates employees to choose to work at camp each summer. In this study, I implemented a qualitative approach using interpretive phenomenological analysis (IPA) to examine the motivational factors that keep coaches at Madawaska Volleyball Camp (MVC) coming back each summer. Eight participants shared their unique experiences at Madwaska Volleyball Camp (MVC) through semi-structured interviews. Four themes emerged that solidified their motivations to return to work at camp each year: alignment, tradition, opportunities for reflection and personal growth, and the surrounding environment.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES, 2016), an estimated 20.5 million students enrolled in American colleges and universities during the fall of 2016, with the majority enrolled in undergraduate programs.
