The problem of this study was to determine if a relationship exists between selected personal characteristics of higher education administrators and their perceived levels of power motivation and power style. The techniques of ex post facto research were used in this study. The Power Management Inventory developed by Jay Hall and James Hawker was selected as the appropriate instrument for use in this study. The Power Management Inventory was designed to provide a comparison between one's espoused theory (power motivation) and one's theory in action (power style). The problem of this study was to determine if achievement scores in reading and language arts could be increased for students who participated in the newspapers in education program. Ninety-three seventh grade students were selected for the study; seventy-seven students completed the study, sixteen students were lost due to attrition. Two experimental groups and one control group were selected by random assignment from the seventh grade class at one school. The Metropolitan Achievement Test was administered to all students as a pretest. The problem was to determine whether significant relationships existed between the personality types of deans/directors of continuing education and chief academic officers in institutions of higher education in North Carolina. Literature was reviewed in order to determine the research that had been completed using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) with administrators in post-secondary institutions. A demographic questionnaire was developed to ascertain information about the type and size of the institutions, as well as data about the respondent. The KpnI, 1.2 and 1.5 kb families of interspersed repetitive DNAs from the African green monkey genome were isolated and characterized. Each family contains three populations of segments based on their sequence lengths and susceptibility to cleavage by the restriction enzymes KpnI and RsaI. The first population contains the smallest segments which are susceptible to both KpnI and RsaI cleavage and have fragment lengths of 1.2 kb (1.2 kb family) and 1.5 kb (1.5 kb family) respectively. The members in this population are referred to as KpnI-sensitive segments. The second population contains longer segments (> 2 kb) which represent fusions …

This study examines some factors that affected choice and use of lithic resources among prehistoric peoples living within a restricted geographical area during a period of 2500 years. The raw materials of chipped stone tools from six shell middens, habitation sites in the Passamaquoddy Bay region of southwestern New Brunswick, are identified. These include rocks that are atypical of the regional geology. Source areas of indigenous materials are located. Canoe transport made the native resources accessible to the inhabitants of the sites under study, and probably facilitated acquisition of non-native rocks.

The purpose of this thesis is to delineate the meanings of ŠĒM and its cognates in Semitic literature, and to examine examples of the term in the Penta­teuch in order to understand the place of "name" (especially God's name) in the theology of the Pentateuch.

The problem of this study was to compare the content of principal evaluation instruments in use in Tennessee public school systems in terms of seven selected categories. The selected categories compared were (a) personal qualities, (b) professional skills and qualities, (c) human relations skills and qualities, (d) instructional leader skills and qualities, (e) manager skills and qualities, (f) decision-making skills, and (g) teaching skills. Of the 142 public school systems in Tennessee, 121 utilized a principal evaluation instrument consisting of either a checklist or rating scale. This thesis concerns the biology of Diabrotica cristata a small relatively inconspicuous beetle inhabiting relict prairie and grass lands in the Great Plains Region of North America. Diabrotica cristata has been classified taxonomically in the virgifera group and is, therefore, closely related to several very important pest species including Diabrotica virgifera virgifera LeConte, the western corn rootworm (WCR), Diabrotica virgifera Krysan and Smith, the Mexican corn rootworm (MCR) and Diabrotica barberi Smith and Lawrence, the northern corn rootworm (NCR). In recent years, farmers have made dramatic changes in their tillage practices. The conventional plow-disk-drag system allows farmers to control weeds, remove crop residue, and prepare the soil for planting. The development of 2,4-D [(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) acetic acid] in the 1940’s and of additional herbicides since then has greatly reduced the need for tillage to control weeds. Improvements in planting equipment allow farmers to use crop residue to their benefit. The freshmen at South Dakota State University are primarily students who have lived their entire lives in small agricultural communities. They are neither stupid nor unintelligent but merely inexperienced in writing formal exposition. Many of them come from towns with populations under one-thousand and high school graduating classes of twenty-five to fifty. Their primary means of communication (up until they enrolled in college) was through speech. Because they rarely write, they feel very uncomfortable about learning to write effectively. A small quantity of nickel oxide and cobalt oxide is often added to the screen glass for both black and white and color television screens. These oxides give the glass a primarily neutral grey color. The purpose is to mitigate the influence of light sources outside the television set. Reflection of light from these sources against the luminescent layer can result in a noticeable reduction of the picture contrast. A new synthetic route to produce a phosphonyl radical in the ground state has been devised. The radical is capable of maintaining its structural integrity and geometry. In polar aprotic solvents the radical can equilibrate depending upon reaction conditions. Our results are significant for they show that the homolytic cleavage of a phosphorous oxygen bond could by changing the configuration at phosphorous, influence the biological properties of naturally occurring compounds. The stereochemistry of 2-substituted-5-ch1oromethyl-5methy1-2-oxo-1,3,2-dioxaphosphorinans can be established by proton NMR spectroscopy. Methanolysis of 2-hydrazinophosphorinans has been investigated. Cis and trans 2-hydrazinophosphorinans undergo acid catalyzed methanolysis to give products of both …

Lysine is the first limiting amino acid in most cereal-based diets for swine. Thus, in cereal-based diets the lysine- requirement must be met first if the pig's protein anabolism is to be efficient and maximal. The most widely used diet in the swine industry today is the corn-soybean meal diet. Corn is deficient in lysine, but soybean meal is a relatively good source of lysine, so soybean. meal is added to the corn base to increase the diet's lysine content. The possibility of establishing relationships between surface water chemistry and the occurrence of certain aquatic plant species was investigated on 281 wetland sites throughout the northern Great Plains. Ninety-seven species of aquatic plants were selected for the study, selection being based on the direct association of plants with water and on the number of sites at which the plants were found. The ranges and means of surface water conductivity, total alkalinity and pH values were determined on a species by species basis. Since the atmosphere attenuates the radiation emitted by the earth, the actual surface temperature is difficult to measure accurately from satellite heights. However, the temperature difference between two locations on the earth can be measured to a better approximation if the atmosphere attenuates the radiation equally over both surfaces. Thus, the temperature difference between two locations is more accessible than the actual surface temperature of each surface. If surface temperature difference does correlate to soil moisture difference, then relative moisture content can be calculated. Mrs. McCullers was not a prolific writer; this was largely due to the fact that she was hindered throughout much of her life by serious illnesses. When she was fifteen, doctors misdiagnosed rheumatic fever as "pneumonia with complications.” Her heart was severely damaged by this illness; consequently, she suffered strokes which resulted in blindness in one eye, complete paralysis of her left side, and complications therefrom. Her final stroke in 1967 left her comatose for forty-seven days until her death on September 29, 1967, at age fifty.
