The Age And Fertility Of Lignite Strip Mine Spoils From The Darco Mine, Harrison County, Texas, Reagan Cook Dec 1977

The Age And Fertility Of Lignite Strip Mine Spoils From The Darco Mine, Harrison County, Texas, Reagan Cook

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Field observation of lignite strip mine spoils from the Darco mine near Marshall, Texas, revealed that gray spoil materials of various ages were devoid of vegetation. Within the same sites, spoil materials which were non-gray supported several conditions of revegetation. Analysis of spoil materials from this mine was undertaken to determine if spoils were differentiated on a chemical basis. Gray materials appear to have greater mineral sources of zinc, iron, and sulfate than non-gray spoils, and greater concentrations of zinc, calcium, magnesium, and potassium at all sites. Further, older spoils (17 to 31 years of age) have mean pH values …

A New Procedure For Calculating Dipolar Sources Of Eeg Discharges., Joseph Harvey Rothweiler 1952-

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A new procedure has been developed for determining the location of the source of certain EEG discharges given the measured surface potentials. The source is modeled as a single current dipole with arbitrary position and orientation, while the head is modeled either as a single homogeneous sphere or as three concentric spheres. This procedure is developed by extending the matched filter concept of communications theory to functions defined on a spherical surface. In addition, simplifications are developed which reduce the amount of computation required. Simulations have been performed using computer generated data to show the validity of the locating procedure …

Project Remand : Estimating Probability Of Failure To Appear, Glen Arthur Just

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The study investigated the following problem: What is the best estimator of failure to appear (FTA) for felons in Ramset County, Minnesota, who are released into the community during their pretrial period? An estimator of FTA and nonFTA probabilities was derived with the aid of stepwise discriminant analysis. The method demonstrates the expost facto ability to correctly place 98 percent of the nonFTA’s and 30 percent of the FTA’s in the 1975 sample. The overall total group placement, due to the large percentage of nonFTA’s in the sample, was approximately 90 percent. Even though it is recognized that multiple regression …

A Microprocessor Controlled Clock System, Joseph P. Clarke Jan 1977

A Microprocessor Controlled Clock System, Joseph P. Clarke

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

While the areas of time keeping and computers have been somewhat independent, there have been exceptions. The commercial time recording clocks have for many years been used of ring bells in schools and factories. An example of this type of system is the simplex control clock designed by International Business Machines in 1949. This type of clock relies on electromechanical logic. With the introduction of low cost digital logic and microprocessors, the designer has been given the opportunity to develop real time control systems and sophisticated digital clocks. The first attempt at this project definition was to develop a digital …

Sodium Bentonite, Sodium Bicarbonate And Limestone Supplementation In High-Concentrate Diets For Ruminants, Barry Howard Dunn Jan 1977

Sodium Bentonite, Sodium Bicarbonate And Limestone Supplementation In High-Concentrate Diets For Ruminants, Barry Howard Dunn

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In the past several years, there has been increased interest in what has been referred to by some as the two-phase feeding of ruminants. This includes backgrounding, when animals are fed diets high in roughage during a growing period, followed by high-grain feeding during a relatively short finishing period. An interim period of grain adaptation, usually 2 to 3 weeks in length, is necessary in this feeding system to avoid the deleterious effects of the rumen acidosis associated with abrupt changes from predominantly roughage diets to high-grain diets. Feedlot performance during this adaptation phase is generally lower than desired. The …

Inheritance Of Regrowth And Other Characters In Smooth Bromegrass, Geprge Lance Holborn Jan 1977

Inheritance Of Regrowth And Other Characters In Smooth Bromegrass, Geprge Lance Holborn

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Land utilization is becoming increasingly important; farmers and ranchers are continually striving to produce more from production sites and to realize some production from their presently non-productive areas. Progress in this direction must be forthcoming in all areas of agriculture. In the case of cool-season grass species, growth takes place in the spring and fall of the year. With the exceptions of the cool-season grass species, orchardgrass, Dactylis glomerata L., little if any mid-summer growth is produced. Orchardgrass, however, is not winter-hardy or very productive under dryland conditions in South Dakota. Currently, there are no cool-season grass varieties recommended to …

The Photochemical Behavior Of Adsorbed Stilbene, Jeffrey L. Jensen Jan 1977

The Photochemical Behavior Of Adsorbed Stilbene, Jeffrey L. Jensen

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Only limited study has been conducted in the area of photoirradiation of trans-stilbene abdorbed on silica gel or alumina. These previous studies were characterized by the immediate removal of the resultant irradiation products from the solid matrix. Hecht, however has noted that if an irradiated system was left on alumina and monitored by reflectance spectroscopy the irradiation products did not produce a stable system, but a return of trans-stilbene was noted. The purpose of this work has been to investigate this behavior.

The Effect Of Oral Ferric Nitrilotriacetic Acid (Fe-Nta) Alone And In Combination With Ascorbic Acid And Choline On Serum Iron Concentration In Swine, Thomas Michael Juntti

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Iron deficiency anemia has been a problem with pigs raised in confinement for over five decades. During that period effective treatments have been developed, but these still involve a considerable outlay of labor on the part of the swine producer. The need for an effective and easily administrable hematinic still exists. The possible advantage of the treatment tested here are: 1. The treatment may be administered to either sow or baby pigs in drinking water or feed. Pigs born to sows whose diet was supplemented may have increased iron stores. 3. The iron concentration of milk in sows whose diet …
