7xxx Aluminum Sheets For Automotive Applications, Sergio Barberis Pinlung
7xxx Aluminum Sheets For Automotive Applications, Sergio Barberis Pinlung
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The automotive industry is interested to reduce vehicles weight, because of the need to reduce the fleet fuel consumption. Within this scenario, high strength aluminum alloys are a viable alternative to heavier steel currently adopted. In particular 7xxx series aluminum alloys, due to their excellent strength to weight ratio, are drawing the attention of carmakers. The development of a proper precipitation hardening process is extremely important in order to obtain the best results in terms of strength and it is what has been done in this work for the alloy 7046. This thesis evaluates the microhardness and tensile testing results. …
Identification Of The Mechanical Properties In The Heat-Affected Zone Of Aluminum Welded Structures, Navid Nazemi
Identification Of The Mechanical Properties In The Heat-Affected Zone Of Aluminum Welded Structures, Navid Nazemi
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Welding is employed as a joining technique for aluminum in industries such as the automotive, construction, and aerospace. The heat generated by welding adversely affects the Heat-Affected Zone (HAZ) mechanical properties. Through numerical simulation techniques and experimental validation, a methodology was presented to analyze the gas metal arc welded aluminum components and predicted their mechanical behaviour. All major thermal, metallurgical, and mechanical phenomena were taken into account in the model development such as heat source, heat losses, as well as the effect of metallurgical phase transformations and temperature-dependent material properties. Simple methodologies were introduced to compute the hardening parameters of …
Optimization Of Recycling Process Of Die Cast Aluminum A380 Machining Chips, Bojun Xiong
Optimization Of Recycling Process Of Die Cast Aluminum A380 Machining Chips, Bojun Xiong
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Aluminum alloys have been increasingly utilized in automotive industry in recent years. Along with components manufactured, considerable amount of aluminum waste in the form of scrap, dross, and machining chips is produced as by-products. In this study, aluminum chips were collected from computer numerical control (CNC) machines. The cleaning method and refining parameters were investigated. Recovery rate reached as high as 90.3% with a remarkable chemical component and micro-structure compared to die-cast aluminum alloy A380 referred. Then, to optimize the recycling process, Design of Experiment (DOE) was employed. Flux types, chips/flux ratios, holding times and holding temperatures were selected as …
