Medication adherence occurs when patients take prescribed medications as directed by their healthcare provider and is critical to patient outcomes in clinical settings. Nonadherence has been linked to disease progression, increased hospitalizations, and poor quality of life. This scholarly project was developed to improve patient adherence with prescribed medications in a community free clinic setting. A review of current literature demonstrated that delivery of patient education regarding medications by using more than one teaching format may improve patient adherence. The practice of screening women for cervical cancer and subsequent abnormalities has resulted in a significant decrease in the diagnosis of invasive cervical cancer. For women’s benefit, future clinicians must be knowledgeable of the most current evidence-based findings and offer them to all eligible candidates. This project utilized the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system to evaluate clinician’s adherence to standardized cervical cancer screening guidelines. The primary objective was to increase the number of patients screened according to the 2012 American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology Consensus Guidelines for Managing Abnormal Cervical Cancer Screening Tests and Cancer Precursors.
