It-Enabled Services As Complex Adaptive Service Systems: A Co-Evolutionary View Of Service Innovation, Bongsug(Kevin) Chae, David Olson

David E. Olson

One specific type of service innovation of particular interest to IT and business professionals is IT-Enabled Services (IES). Previous studies have suggested many roles for IT in service innovations. IT has proven a useful tool in service innovation. IT is an important component of most services in many industries, including healthcare, financial services, engineering, and management consulting. However, little work has been conducted in IESs. Thus, there is considerable potential for researchers in IS, operations, marketing, and economics to make contributions to the emerging debates and challenges in IESs and service innovation. Two topics are critically important in both IES …

Social Justice And Water Sustainability And Management, Brian H. Bornstein, Alan J. Tomkins, Sarah Michaels, Ashok Samal, Yunwoo Nam, Sandi Zellmer, Kyle Hoagland, David Olson

David E. Olson

As the challenge of maintaining adequate water quantity and quality mounts worldwide, increasing attention is being paid to the role individual behavior plays in water resources management. This chapter identifies how selected theories and methods from social scientific research on justice might inform water related decision making. This chapter illustrates how insights from psychological research on social justice can be employed to advance water resources management. Social justice, including issues of institutional regulation and behavior modification, is an essential consideration in the design and implementation of sustainable strategies …

Absence Of Age-Income Correlation In Ten Rural South Dakota Counties: Real Capital Outflow Or Self-Selection Bias?, Daren Junker, Meredith Redlin, David Olson, Gary Aguiar Feb 2016

Absence Of Age-Income Correlation In Ten Rural South Dakota Counties: Real Capital Outflow Or Self-Selection Bias?, Daren Junker, Meredith Redlin, David Olson, Gary Aguiar

David E. Olson

Previous research establishes a positive correlation between age and income during the working years of 18 to 65. Survey data from the first 10 communities in a development project in South Dakota do not exhibit this correlation. Census data is examined for the 10 counties involved to determine whether the correlation is absent countywide or if self-selection bias may have produced this result. With income distributions matching their respective counties and working age distributions that do not, factors that might skew self-selection in the observed manner are examined from a life-course perspective.
