On-Line Signature Verification Using Global Features, Akrum Mamdouh Shawky Jun 2003

On-Line Signature Verification Using Global Features, Akrum Mamdouh Shawky

Archived Theses and Dissertations

The work presented in this thesis deals with the development of an on-line Handwritten Signature Verification methodology based on certain Global features that represent the entire signature as a whole. The aim of the research is to come up with an efficient "acceptance/rejection" mechanism that can be used to verify the authenticity of a certain signature. Global features are less expensive to compute than local features, they provide fast verification, and should provide accurate verification results. After identifying the entire global set of attributes that are to be investigated, Cramer's v-statistics and information-theoretic entropy measures of association were used in …

Adult Egyptians' Pronunciation Of Initial Consonant Clusters, Moharram El Rohbini

Archived Theses and Dissertations

This thesis investigated the pronunciation problems of syllable initial consonant clusters in word-initial positions for adult Egyptian Students. Several previous studies explored the incorrect strategies that adults used in order to avoid the difficulty of initial consonant cluster pronunciation. Building on the findings of the previous research, this study focused on two aspects related to initial consonant cluster pronunciation. The first aspect was related to the issue of cluster pronunciation, i.e. whether all initial consonant clusters have the same difficulty level or not. Since the EFL teacher is the basic source of input and main pronunciation model for EFL students, …

Texture Classification Using Transform Analysis, Mary Habib Jun 2003

Texture Classification Using Transform Analysis, Mary Habib

Archived Theses and Dissertations

The work presented in this thesis deals with the application of spectral methods for texture classification. The aim of the present work is to introduce a hybrid methodology for texture classification based on a spatial domain global pre-classifier together with a spectral classifier that utilizes multiresolution transform analysis. The reason for developing a spatial pre-classifier is that many discriminating features of textures are present in the spatial domain of the texture. Of these, global features such as intensity histograms and entropies can still add significant information to the texture classification process. The pre-classifier uses texture intensity histograms to derive histogram …

Industrialization And Underdevelopment: Towards A Heavy Industrialization Drive In Egypt, Mohamed Ismail Sabry Jun 2003

Industrialization And Underdevelopment: Towards A Heavy Industrialization Drive In Egypt, Mohamed Ismail Sabry

Archived Theses and Dissertations

This thesis tries to answer twomain questions. The first is why a developing country like Egypt needs Heavy Industrialization? And the second is what are the best strategies to achieve such an industrialization drive? These two questions are being tackled through a theoritical analysis using the Structuralist, Neoclassical and Institutional perspectives. A special focus is put on specific heavy industrial sectors of potential or strategic value in Egypt namely: Steel, Aluminum, Petrochemicals and Machinery. Moreover, three different heavy industrialization experiences of three NICs are being analyzed, each of which had a different heavy industrialization strategy. These are namely: South Korea, …

Utilization Of Municipal Solid Waste Rejects In The Production Of A Recycled Plastic Waste Composite Material, Mohamed Kamal Abou Khatwa Jun 2003

Utilization Of Municipal Solid Waste Rejects In The Production Of A Recycled Plastic Waste Composite Material, Mohamed Kamal Abou Khatwa

Archived Theses and Dissertations

The solid waste disposal problem has grown significantly in the last decades imposing a lot of pressure on disposal and treatment acts. In the past, incineration and landfilling were the common methods for disposing of products of municipal solid waste. With the increasing volumes of waste generation and the legislative restrictions of these treatment methods, reuse of bulk waste is foreseen as the best alternative to disposal. Due to the current widespread use of plastic products in daily life, post consumer plastics now contribute significantly to municipal solid waste generation rates with a contradicting low participation in waste minimization practices. …

The Localized Corrosion Behavior Of 6% Mo And 316l Stainless Steels In Chloride Media And The Effect Of Applied Mechanical Stress, Houssam El-Din Sabry Ahmed Jun 2003

The Localized Corrosion Behavior Of 6% Mo And 316l Stainless Steels In Chloride Media And The Effect Of Applied Mechanical Stress, Houssam El-Din Sabry Ahmed

Archived Theses and Dissertations

Electrochemical techniques were applied to study the crevice corrosion resistance of two types of stainless steel alloys namely, conventional 316L and super austenitic 6% Mo in acidified 3% NaCl solution at room temperature. Potentiodynamic results showed that 6% Mo alloy possessed a remarkable resistance to crevice corrosion compared to 316L alloy when tested in the same solution. The breakdown potential at which passivity broke down for 316L alloy was 0.00 m V, SCE, the corresponding value for 6% Mo alloy could not be reached up to the potential value of 700 m V, SCE. 316L alloy suffered extremely from crevice …

Synthesis And Optimization Of Digital Systems For Low Power At Logic Level Of Abstraction, Ihab Mostafa Amin Amer

Archived Theses and Dissertations

In this thesis we tackle one of the most important fields of research, which is reducing power consumption in digital systems. The importance of this field comes from the fact that nowadays, several digital devices are intensively used in our daily life. Thus, minimizing their power consumption is a common demand from the technological as well as the economical point of view. Some basic definitions in the low power design field are introduced. Besides, a preview of different efforts that were exerted in the field of reducing power consumption of digital systems at various levels of abstraction is presented. A …

In this work, a proposed model for the municipal solid waste management system in Port …

Barbarous Magnificence: The Decline And Continuity Of Akan Traditional Religious Practices, Kwasi Bempong Jun 2003

Barbarous Magnificence: The Decline And Continuity Of Akan Traditional Religious Practices, Kwasi Bempong

Archived Theses and Dissertations

This thesis uses archaeological, anthropological, and historical evidence along with indigenous texts as the determining factors to address two major problems in the literature: the widely held belief that Akan culture developed in the forests of modem Ghana and that their supreme deity, Onyame, is a 'withdrawn deity', with whom they did not share an intimate relationship. Although these problems may seem unrelated the former is used to support the latter by ignoring the historical antecedents of Northern Akan culture that blossomed in the savanna-forest transition zone and the subsequent movement of well-developed religious practices and beliefs from the north …
