• President Dan Mahony will preside at the event, where master’s or specialist degrees will be awarded to around 75 graduate degree candidates and undergraduate degrees to more than 250 candidates.
• Mahony also will present Psychology Professor Cheryl Fortner-Wood with the 2017 James Pinckney Kinard and Lee Wicker Kinard Award for Excellence in Teaching.

• The selections for this class are: former head baseball coach Joe Hudak, former student-athletes Lisa Kingsmore (softball), Saidi Isaac (men’s soccer) and Vinicius Bortolatto (men’s tennis), as well as contributors and long-time Eagle supporters Vernon and Ann Terry.
• There are currently 77 members of the Winthrop Athletic Hall of Fame, which was established in 2004.

Emerging Research Institution (ERls) can benefit from patent licensing revenues from the transfer f patented technologies into the commercial marketplace because these added revenues can help research institutions become more sustainable financially. However, many ERls struggle to succeed in technology transfer. This study describes the development of a university technology transfer supply chain network sustainability tool that private and public ERls can use to become more self-reliant financially. • Shelley Hamill, a professor of health and physical education, chaired the S.C. Health and Safety Education Standards Review/Writing Committee in updating the health education standards for K-12 public schools.
• Hamill provided leadership to guide the committee process and followed up with staff at the Department of Education to make sure the committee’s recommendations moved through the approval process.

• In 2011, the average Black Friday shopper would spend $398, compared to only $299 in 2015, said Peters, who studies shopping with Winthrop Professor of Marketing Jane Thomas.

• Called the National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement (NSLVE) through Tufts University, the study results showed that Winthrop student voter turnout of 58.1 percent surpassed the national average for college students by 7.7 percent.
• The national average for all 18-24 year olds was 43 percent.

Department Of Mass Communication Will Co-Host Part Of 20th Annual Native American Film Festival, Winthrop University

• This is the second year the festival has been partially hosted by Winthrop. The festival, including film screenings and panel discussions, is being held at various locations around the state during that week.
