Understanding The Development Of A Logic Model In A Multi-Agency Resource Centre, Alexandra M. Boston
Understanding The Development Of A Logic Model In A Multi-Agency Resource Centre, Alexandra M. Boston
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
In response to social and economic decline in the downtown area of Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, over thirty diverse community organizations collaborate to deliver services out of the Neighbourhood Resource Centre (NRC). This study seeks to uncover how the objectives of the NRC are being interpreted and enacted by community organizations, and how the organizations navigate diverse desired outcomes to create a logic model. Through participatory action research, the study sought to answer the research questions through field observation, semi-structured interviews, and focus groups. An analysis of the data yields that, through collaboration and engagement the NRC has strengthened the …

Timely Access To Maternal, Neonatal And Child Healthcare For Rural Communities In Rwanda: The Role Of Community Health Workers, Jean Bosco Bigirimana
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Abstract
Introduction: In Rwanda, although there has been some progress in health care delivery as expressed in the reduction in maternal and child mortality, rates are still high and geographically variable. Improving equitable access to quality healthcare services for maternal, neonatal and child healthcare (MNCH), community-based maternal, neonatal and child healthcare (CBMNCH) depends upon using “community health workers” (CHWs). Yet CHWs program faces difficulties that upset delivery of the quality of the comprehensive package of services. Unfortunately, little is known about CHWs` performance and job satisfaction in the provision of CBMNCH.
Goal: The study aimed to provide insight into …
Using The Re-Aim Framework To Evaluate The Feasibility Of A Parent-Focused Pilot Intervention Targeting Childhood Obesity, Daniel Briatico
Using The Re-Aim Framework To Evaluate The Feasibility Of A Parent-Focused Pilot Intervention Targeting Childhood Obesity, Daniel Briatico
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Background: Childhood obesity is a major public health concern. Community-based childhood obesity treatment interventions have the potential to improve health behaviours and outcomes, but require effective evaluation to facilitate translation of research into practice. The purpose of the current study was to determine the feasibility of a parent-focused pilot intervention (“C.H.A.M.P. Families”) targeting childhood obesity using the RE-AIM framework, an evaluation tool for community-based health interventions.
Methods: A single-centre, single-group, non-randomized, repeated measure feasibility study was conducted over the course of 10 months. Participants (n = 16 parents/caregivers representing 11 children with obesity) completed a 13-week parent-focused education intervention. …
Rui(N)Ation: Narratives Of Art And Urban Revitalization In Detroit, Jessica Ks Cappuccitti
Rui(N)Ation: Narratives Of Art And Urban Revitalization In Detroit, Jessica Ks Cappuccitti
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
This dissertation considers the City of Detroit as a case study for analyzing the complex role that artists and art institutions are playing in the potential re-growth and revitalization of the city. I specifically look at artists and arts organizations who are working against the popular narrative of Detroit as “ruin city.” Their efforts create counter narratives that emphasize stories of survival and showcase vibrant communities. By focussing on artist-led and institutional initiatives, I emphasize the importance of art in both community and narrative-building.
This research has taken the form of a written dissertation and two adapted projects, and positions …

Participants’ Perceptions Of “C.H.A.M.P. Families”: A Parent-Focused Intervention Targeting Paediatric Overweight And Obesity, Kristen C. Reilly, Daniel Briatico, Jennifer D. Irwin, Patricia Tucker, Erin S. Pearson, Shauna M. Burke
Paediatrics Publications
Background: Recently, our team implemented a 13-week group-based intervention for parents of children with obesity (“C.H.A.M.P. Families”). The primary objective of this study was to explore, qualitatively, parents’ perspectives of their experiences in and influence of C.H.A.M.P. Families, as well as their recommendations for future paediatric obesity treatment interventions. Methods: Twelve parents (seven mothers, five fathers/step-fathers) representing seven children (four girls, three boys) with obesity participated in one of two focus groups following the intervention. Focus groups were audio recorded and transcribed verbatim and data were analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. Results: Findings showed that parents perceived their participation in …
Disaster As A Framework For Social Change: Searching For New Patterns Across Plant Ecology And Online Networks, Christina Battle
Disaster As A Framework For Social Change: Searching For New Patterns Across Plant Ecology And Online Networks, Christina Battle
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
This dissertation looks to disaster as a framework for enhancing community and the ways in which small gestures of artistic practice might be utilized for change. Embracing the complexity of disaster, the dissertation weaves linkages across a number of disciplines: disaster studies, climate science, contemporary art, internet studies, and plant ecology, in order to seek out potential tactics. Utilizing artistic strategies, especially an embrace of failure as part of methodology, this dissertation accepts the contradictions of such complexity, asserting that following patterns of overlap is a necessary tactic for approaching emergent and speculative futures. The overall project takes cues from …
