Types Of Social Relationships And Their Effects On Psychological Well-Being, Alana A. Graham
Types Of Social Relationships And Their Effects On Psychological Well-Being, Alana A. Graham
Brescia Psychology Undergraduate Honours Theses
Research has already established the importance of social networks in developing and maintaining well-being. Furthermore, different types of social relationships have been found to influence individuals’ lives in unique ways. There is little understanding, however, of the manner in which relationship types compare in their effects on individuals’ psychological well-being. Using a correlational design, this study investigated the associations between relationship intimacy and psychological well-being. Relationship intimacy was measured for respondents’ parents, significant others, close friends, and pets. The surveys were distributed to 91 undergraduate students and combined the Miller Social Intimacy Scale (MSIS) and Ryff’s Scales of Psychological Well-being …
Intra-Field Canopy Nitrogen Retrieval From Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Imagery For Wheat And Corn Crops In Ontario, Canada, Hwang Lee
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
The optimization of crop nitrogen fertilization to accurately predict and match the nitrogen (N) supply to the crop N demand is the subject of intense research due to the environmental and economic impact of N fertilization. Excess N could seep into the water supplies around the field and cause unnecessary spending by farmers. Understanding the detailed spatial information about a crop status is known as a farming management technique called precision agriculture, which allows farmers to maximize their yield and profit while reducing the inputs of fertilizers, pesticides, water, and insecticides.
The goal of this study is to document and …
Attenuation Of Obesity, Hepatic Steatosis And Reversal Of Atherosclerosis By The Flavonoids Naringenin And Nobiletin, Amy C. Burke
Attenuation Of Obesity, Hepatic Steatosis And Reversal Of Atherosclerosis By The Flavonoids Naringenin And Nobiletin, Amy C. Burke
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Naringenin and nobiletin are naturally-derived citrus flavonoids that have significant lipid-lowering and insulin sensitizing effects in vitro and in vivo. In murine models of obesity, metabolic dysfunction and atherogenesis, these flavonoids protect against the development of cardiometabolic disease. However, the ability of naringenin and nobiletin to reverse existing metabolic dysfunction and atherosclerosis has not been investigated.
The purpose of this thesis was to investigate the ability of the citrus flavonoids, naringenin and nobiletin, to reverse obesity, metabolic syndrome and atherosclerosis in two different mouse models of atherosclerosis regression. The first chapter demonstrates in Ldlr-/- mice with diet-induced obesity, …
Valuation Of Multiple Exercise Option Using A Modified Longstaff And Schwartz Approach, Rahim Mohammadhasani Khorasany
Valuation Of Multiple Exercise Option Using A Modified Longstaff And Schwartz Approach, Rahim Mohammadhasani Khorasany
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
In this work we study the problem of pricing multiple exercise options, a class of early exercise options that are traded in the energy market, using a modified Longstaff and Schwartz approach. Recent work by Letourneau and Stentoft (2014) shows American option price estimator bias is reduced by imposing additional structure on the regressions used in Monte Carlo pricing algorithms. We extend their methodology to the Monte Carlo valuation of multiple exercise options by requiring additional structure on the regressions used to estimate continuation values. The resulting price estimators have reduced bias, particularly for small sample sizes, and results hold …
Predicting Response To Medial Branch Blocks: A Clinical Decision Making Tool, Swati Mehta
Predicting Response To Medial Branch Blocks: A Clinical Decision Making Tool, Swati Mehta
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Chronic neck pain can lead to long-term disability and socio-economic burden. Several demographic, clinical, and psychosocial factors have been implicated in the development of neck pain disability. These factors may also influence management of neck pain. Optimal treatment often requires targeting interventions based on specific diagnosis. One of the most common cause of neck pain is cervical facet joint injury. Currently, the gold standard for diagnosing facetogenic injury is through the medial branch block (MBB) procedure. Though the procedure is relatively safe, it is still invasive and may result in adverse effects. In Canada, access to this procedure is limited …
A New Diagnostic Test For Regression, Yun Shi
A New Diagnostic Test For Regression, Yun Shi
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
A new diagnostic test for regression and generalized linear models is discussed. The test is based on testing if the residuals are close together in the linear space of one of the covariates are correlated. This is a generalization of the famous problem of spurious correlation in time series regression. A full model building approach for the case of regression was developed in Mahdi (2011, Ph.D. Thesis, Western University, ”Diagnostic Checking, Time Series and Regression”) using an iterative generalized least squares algorithm. Simulation experiments were reported that demonstrate the validity and utility of this approach but no actual applications were …
The Relationship Between Proximity To The O-Train Stations And Property Values In The City Of Ottawa, Christopher Macdonald Hewitt
The Relationship Between Proximity To The O-Train Stations And Property Values In The City Of Ottawa, Christopher Macdonald Hewitt
Digitized Theses
Many studies have demonstrated the relationship between proximity to urban rail transit (URT) stations and the value ofresidential property. Most, however, do not employ either a spatial model or a cartographic depiction of their results. This represents a problem insofar as property values tend to vary spatially. To help address this deficiency, this study will examine the relationship between proximity to URT (O-Train) stations in Ottawa, Ontario and property values specifically utilizing a spatial approach. This will
be undertaken through the use of spatial and geographically weighted regression (GWR), techniques in a Geographic Information System (GIS). This study is contributing …
Simulation-Based Valuation And Counterparty Exposure Estimation Of American Options, Kin Hung Kan
Simulation-Based Valuation And Counterparty Exposure Estimation Of American Options, Kin Hung Kan
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
Valuing American options is a central problem in option pricing since the early-exercise feature is very common among financial or insurance derivatives products. For high-dimensional American options, Monte Carlo simulation is generally regarded as the only viable approach to price them, and this is the focus of our work. We propose a new regression-based Monte Carlo algorithm for pricing American options. This method typically generates an upper bound of the option value. It is computationally efficient and generates accurate price estimates.
To improve the convergence rate, we apply a bias reduction technique to the least-squares Monte Carlo estimators of American …
Voice From The Other Side Of The Mirror: A Comparative Study Of Nabokov And Kundera, Shasha Li
Voice From The Other Side Of The Mirror: A Comparative Study Of Nabokov And Kundera, Shasha Li
Digitized Theses
This thesis is a comparative study of the novels of Vladimir Nabokov and Milan Kundera. The point of departure of my thesis is the inquiry to the narrative voices in their works and the search for the “real author” behind the deluded narratives. My thesis will begin with the examination of the role of parody in Nabokov’s novels, particularly Lolita. It further discusses how, through irony and imitation, Nabokov’s text, as Borges said about the Baroque style, “deliberately exhausts (or tries to exhaust) its possibilities and borders on its own caricature.” Bader’s metaphor, “refracted shades,” concerning the authorship of Pale …
