Evaluation And Seismically Isolated Substructure Redesign Of A Typical Multi-Span Pre-Stressed Concrete Girder Highway Bridge, Brian D. Richins

Seismic considerations greatly influence the lateral and vertical design of a structure, often necessitating larger elements than would otherwise be required. Seismic isolation greatly reduces the demands on a structure due to earthquake loading, allowing the use of smaller, more efficient members and foundations. This case study illustrates the theory and procedure of evaluating the response of a recently built multi-span highway bridge using the most recent (2009) AASHTO code. Based on this response, an equivalent structure was designed to incorporate a seismic isolation system, and the substructure of the isolated bridge redesigned to meet the reduced demands more economically. …

To begin raising awareness of ethics and publishing concerns and educate doctoral students (future professors and practitioners) within the Academy of Management, Davis and Madsen facilitated 60-minute segments for 10 division's doctoral student consortium at the Academy of Management conference in Chicago. We brought journal editors/associate editors with us for each of our division presentation. With the fairly recent and highly publicized breaches of ethics among members of the business community, there is a need to re-examine specific strategies employed in all kinds of organizations. Many business faculty members are comfortable teaching ethics in the classroom, but are we (as scholars and educators) appropriately challenging our own ethical practices? To assist in raising awareness of ethical concerns within the EURAM, we believe it is important to focus discussions on challenging our own ethics, particularly as faculty members in our various roles. Successfully Incorporating The Participant Perspective: Analysis Of Participatory Research In Development, Zachary T. Revene

Literature from recent decades has highlighted the importance of incorporating the perspective of communities into development project planning and implementation. In this project, the participant perspective was documented through qualitative ethnographic techniques and illustrates the different ways in which this perspective was either included or excluded in two separate case studies along the northern coast of Peru. The case study of huachaque farmers surrounding the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Chan Chan provided an example of the general failure to incorporate the participant perspective into planning of future biodiversity conservation projects.
