Diagnostic Considerations In The Identification Of The Hyperactive Child, Barbara Jagoda Draheim May 1981

Diagnostic Considerations In The Identification Of The Hyperactive Child, Barbara Jagoda Draheim

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The hyperactive disorder of childhood and the enumeration of its features were described in two papers published in the mid-1950's, by Laufer and his colleagues (Laufer, 1957; Laufer, Denhoff & Solomons, 1956). It was a list that has since become familiar; short attention span, impulsivity, irritability, low frustration tolerance, poor academic achievement, and visual-motor difficulties. Like many who have since searched for definers of the syndrome, Laufer and his colleagues remarked upon the perplexing variability displayed by these children, and they noted that no single symptom could be considered diagnostic. They described the development of "secondary psychological difficulties" due to …

Approaches To Adult Probationary Supervision: A Positive Perspective, Douglas Wilson May 1981

Approaches To Adult Probationary Supervision: A Positive Perspective, Douglas Wilson

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The field of probationary supervision today is marked by division and confusion. The probation officer who attempts to define the most effective approach to supervision is confronted with conflicting advice or, perhaps even worse, no advice at all. As Allen, Carlson, and Parks (1979) point out:

  • In summary, if we ask which caseload management strategies have been shown to be the more effective or efficient, we must answer that too little research has been done in this area to come to any definitive conclusion. (p. 67)

In spite of the lack of research to provide a "definitive conclusion," the literature …

Uniform Commercial Credit Code Of Utah, Karen Robinson May 1981

Uniform Commercial Credit Code Of Utah, Karen Robinson

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

Although our country is said to be free, we live primarily on credit, and we are bound to financial obligations. Each of us deals with credit in our everyday lives, yet most people know very little concerning their rights and the laws dealing with credit. A discussion of credit laws contained in the Utah Uniform Consumer Credit Code, complicated legal language versus layman's language in loans and sales, and enforcement will be presented in this paper. Following the report, there is a conclusion which summarizes the points presented and explains why I believe the American public needs a mass education …

Single...Chance Or Choice, Karen Robinson May 1981

Single...Chance Or Choice, Karen Robinson

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

"It is said to be the largest unrecognized minority group in America, but it has no lobbying efforts, central organization or focus. The group is singles - divorced, widowed or never married - and there is an estimated l 190,000 of them in Kansas City Area." One out of every three adults in the United States is single. That is 43 million. Yet in spite of their great numbers, single people find that social pressures still call for "settling down" and raising a family.

The Roles Of Mechanical Stress And Ethylene In Clinostat-Induced Leaf Epinasty And Gravitropic Response Of Dicot Shoots, Raymond M. Wheeler May 1981

The Roles Of Mechanical Stress And Ethylene In Clinostat-Induced Leaf Epinasty And Gravitropic Response Of Dicot Shoots, Raymond M. Wheeler

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Aminoethoxyvinyl glycine (AVG) and silver thiosulfate, antagonists of ethylene biosynthesis and action in plants, both delayed onset of leaf epinasty in Xanthium strumarium L. (cocklebur) plants rotated on horizontal clinostats. Xanthium plants mechanically stressed by continuous horizontal or vertical shaking, or continuous twisting back and forth, did not develop any significant epinasty, while plants inverted every 20 minutes (upside down half the time) did develop epinasty. From this it appears that clinostat-induced epinasty is a result of gravity compensation rather than mechanical stress.

Treatment of Xanthium, Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. (tomato), and Ricinus communis L. (castor bean) …

Faunal Succession And Depositional Environments Within The Lodgepole Limestone (Early Mississippian) Of Samaria Mountain, Idaho, Gary Keith Hines

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Community succession, the orderly changes a community experiences with time, is considered to be the result of either autogenic or allogenic factors working singularly or in combination. It has been further suggested that, as communities undergo succession, certain biological parameters change in a predictable manner. Examination of members 2 through 4 of the Mississippian (Kinderhook-Osage) Lodgepole Formation of Samaria Mountain, Idaho provides a means to evaluate these concepts.

Within the study section comprised of 125 beds (61.5 m thick), four rock types are recognized. These include: (1) fossiliferous wackestone (78% of beds), which ranges in color from dark-gray (N3) to …

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Prairie dog control was found to be economically feasible on the Conata basin in South Dakota with future annual maintenance control to prevent re-invasions. The large difference between the present net worth values of the two viewpoints ($2587 for the U.S. Forest Service acting as an agent of the sovereign and $109,011 for the ranchers) was due to the added costs of environmental considerations included in the U.S. Forest Service control program, but assumed not to be included in control by ranchers. In order for prairie dog control to remain economically feasible, annual maintenance control for the U.S. Forest Service …
