Examining Written And Spoken Fast-Mapping Abilities In Children With And Without Language Impairment: A Feasibility Study, Brooke Rice

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

Linguistic skills foundational to literacy success are skills such as phonology, morphology, and orthographic knowledge. Phonological awareness, the awareness of specific units of sounds within words, and morphological awareness, the meaningful units which make up words, have been studied in depth and received recent attention in research. Phonological awareness has been attributed to increased literacy abilities of written word decoding, syllable analysis, and word recognition (Stackhouse, 1997). Additionally, morphological awareness has been attributed to increased literacy abilities of sight word reading, decoding, reading comprehension, and spelling (Carlisle, 1995, 2000; Carlisle & Nomanbhoy, 1993; Wolter, Wood, & D’zatko, 2009). Orthographic awareness, …

Other key features include the Flaming Gorge Recreation Area, Green River, and Dinosaur National Monument. The basin historically has been a major region for natural resource extraction, and the population fluctuation has mirrored the "boom" and "bust" cycles of the industry. The Uintah Basin has recently recognized the need for developing a comprehensive plan for identifying the critical …

Heritability Of Cognition And Memory Loss In The Cache County Memory Study Cohort, Cassidy P. Allen

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The Cache County Memory Study (CCMS) is a longitudinal study of the elderly in Cache County, Utah, that was initiated over twelve years ago to explore the role of APOE genotype and other environmental factors in dementia risk and cognitive function. Collaboration between the CCMS and investigators with the Utah Population Database (UPDB) at the University of Utah has revealed a significant number of sibships among the original 5,092 CCMS participants, along with complex pedigrees that include additional thousands of ancestors and relatives not enrolled in the Cache Study. Information about these families and pedigrees raises the potential for studies …

Evaluation Of A Collaborative Model Using A Case Study Analysis Of Watershed Planning In The Intermountain West, Gary Bentrup

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

Planning methods that involve collaboration are gaining popularity and currently being applied in a variety of resource management issues . Based on current planning theory, researchers have proposed a conceptual collaborative model for environmental planning and management . This thesis evaluates the usefulness of the model to describe the range of factors important for the establishment and operation of collaboration in environmental planning. This iterative model suggests that collaboration emerges from a series of antecedents and then proceeds sequentially through problem setting, direction setting, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation phases. The evaluation was based on three case studies of watershed-based …

Impact Of Development On Traditional Pastoralism In Somalia, Abdulkadir A. Handulle May 1987

Impact Of Development On Traditional Pastoralism In Somalia, Abdulkadir A. Handulle

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The Somali pastoral nomads live in an environmental condition of risk and uncertainty. The scarce and unreliable rainfall is the primary element ·which determines the existence of nomadic pastoralism. The lands devoted to pastoralism in Somalia are those arid and semi-arid areas that could not sustain cropping, so that pastoralism may be considered the only rational utilization of the land resource. Nomads live in an environment where the survival of both animals and plants are constrained by many factors such as droughts. Yet, both nomads and their animals have evolved by learning numerous adaptive strategies to cope with their harsh, …

Procedure For Identifying Emotionally Disturbed Freshmen At Utah State University: A Study And Recommendation, Carl D. Allen

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The encouragement of individual self-improvement and enlightenment through the process of a formal education is basic to the social system of our nation. College and university administrators are therefore faced with a practical exigency for understanding those factors that are associated with academic achievement. (During the past several years there has been increasing evidence that college achievement is dependent upon something more than intellectual ability. From experience, the average counselor in a college or university has become aware of this fact time and time again. Some studies have gone further and suggested specific personality characteristics of successful and unsuccessful students. …

A Study Of Supply And Demand For Elementary School Teachers In Venezula, Evilexis Betancourt

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

In Venezuela, as in most Latin American countries, education is one of the most important factors in the development process. Within the educational structures, primary schooling is especially important due to the large share of the population under age 12, the great percentage of people of lower social status (who are content with primary schooling for their children), and a still high rate of illiteracy. Fortunately this rate has been declining due to emphasis on and importance of primary education.

A Study Of The Exponential Distirbutions And Their Applications, Michael Chang-Yu Wang May 1969

A Study Of The Exponential Distirbutions And Their Applications, Michael Chang-Yu Wang

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

The exponential distribution is a widely known distribution i n statistical theory. It can be regarded as the continuous analogue of the Poisson distribution, discussed by S. D. Poisson in 1837. The Poisson is a limiting form of the Binomial distribution which can be t race d back as early as 1700, discussed by James Bernoulli. A paper by Marsden and Barratt (1911) on the radioactive disintegration of thorium gives a typical frequency distribution which follows the exponential law (8, p. 89). The exponential distribution has achieved importance recently in connection with the theory of stochastic process and has found …

LaSalle found that while automation is increasing at an even accelerating pace, little emphasis is apparent in high school curriculums on the significance of automated processes for prospective office workers. He further stated that business education departments should study local situations and prepare students to qualify for available data processing employment.

The need for data processing training in the Ogden area is evident in the frequent requests by local employers for people trained in data processing.

All Graduate Plan B and other Reports, Spring 1920 to Spring 2023

It has been a common statement by many educators that the athletic type is a person who has "more brawn than brain." Many people assume that low physical ability usually accompanies superior mental ability and high physical ability usually accompanies inferior mental ability. Some members of the academic faculty object to relinquishing school time for athletic and sporting activities. They assume that the majority of the students involved are of the poorer academic type and cannot afford to miss school time for sporting and athletic activities. Research on previous studies support the contention that mental achievement and physical fitness are …
