The emergence of mobile technologies has changed the higher education landscape. Background and aims Pharmaceutical opioid prescription rates are increasing globally, however knowledge of their long-term effects on mental health, in particular depression remains limited. This study aimed to identify factors associated with the onset of depression post-opioid use that differ to factors associated with depression post-pain. Method Participants (N=1 418) were a national sample prescribed opioids for chronic non-cancer pain. Age at onset of depression, pain and commencement of opioid medications were collected via structured interview. Results Six in 10 (61%) reported lifetime depression; of those, almost half developed depression after pain and after they started opioid medications (48%). Variables …

They vividly recall the moment when a teacher or family member discouraged their efforts to creatively express their ideas through drawing or art-making. Such early childhood experiences can affect developing confidence and learning potential throughout a child's education and into adulthood. Counter marketing involves the use of commercial marketing techniques to engage young people about harmful health behaviours, and to highlight how the industries producing the products involved in these behaviours have manipulated and targeted them. This study used a counter marketing approach to target youth smokers and nonsmokers from lower SES groups in regional NSW to help change attitudes towards smoking, and contribute towards a reduction in smoking prevalence. Objective Clinical psychology students and clinicians in regional and remote areas face challenges accessing required supervision and peer consultation. Distance supervision using existing online conferencing tools (e.g., SKYPE) is one option, but limitations of existing platforms require an external method of initiating a supervisory relationship and securely sharing confidential documents and videos. This paper addresses the development of an e-supervision application to overcome these limitations, and examines issues inherent to such a development. Background Children's exposure to food marketing is one environmental determinant of childhood obesity. Measuring the extent to which children are aware of food brands may be one way to estimate relative prior exposures to food marketing. This study aimed to develop and validate an Australian Brand Awareness Instrument (ABAI) to estimate children's food brand awareness. Methods The ABAI incorporated 30 flashcards depicting food/drink logos and their corresponding products. An abbreviated version was also created using 12 flashcards (ABAI-a). Gifted adolescent rural girls live in a world where popular culture is a key source of information about their present and future lives. This study asked whether, as a key influence, popular culture supported or disrupted the talent development process of gifted adolescent girls in rural settings. Through an embedded case study approach this research study explored the responses of two groups of gifted adolescent girls to the messages presented to them in popular culture about talent development and giftedness. This paper describes a novel solar-assisted HVAC system developed for the Team UOW 'Illawarra Flame' Solar Decathlon house, the winner of the Solar Decathlon China 2013 competition. This HVAC system consists of an air-based photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) collector and a phase change material (PCM) thermal storage unit integrated with a reverse cycle heat pump, in a ducted system. The system was designed for operation during both winter and summer using daytime solar radiation and night-time sky radiative cooling, respectively. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) in different forms such as films, fibers or particles are being extensively studied for removal of contaminants from aquatic environments due to its outstanding photocatalytic activity. This work reports the development of TiO2-polyamide 12 electrospun fiber mats. A systematic study on the influence of electrospun processing parameters on polymer fiber morphology was performed. It was observed that the average fiber diameter is mainly influenced by polymer concentration and average fiber diameters between 404 ± 82 nm and 1442 ± 360 nm were obtained. Despite recognising the importance of educators in meeting the needs of gifted and talented students, research indicates that teachers often lack the essential knowledge, skills and confidence to identify and meet the needs of gifted and talented students. Evidence suggests this lack of preparation may be related to teachers' professional development. This quantitative study of 96 primary school teachers aimed to provide an initial insight into the knowledge and uptake of the 2005 DEST/GERRIC Gifted and Talented Training Package. Both orientational and geometrical characteristics of grains in tertiary oxide scales have been quantitatively investigated using the electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) technique. Phase and orientation mappings demonstrate that the {001} planes of magnetite and the {0001} planes of hematite are parallel to the direction of oxide growth. Pole figures (PFs) as scattering plots clearly display the direct correlation between the orientations and microstructure sites of magnetite grains. Magnetite grains develop a strong rotated cube texture component that shifts to the {100} component, whereas those with the grain size of 1-5. μm develop the {001} cube texture component. Magnetorheological shear thickening fluid is a smart material that exhibits both magnetorheological and shear thickening effects. This study focuses on the design and development of a novel magnetorheological shear thickening fluid-based linear damper. First, micron-sized carbonyl iron particles, at a 20% and 80% weight fraction, were immersed among the shear thickening fluid base and thoroughly mixed under a high shear condition to produce the magnetorheological shear thickening fluid. Then, a monotube damper with a bypass was designed and fabricated. This paper reports a novel magnetorheological fluid (MRF)-based damper, which synergizes the attributes of variable stiffness and damping through the compact assembly of two MRF damping units and a spring. The magnetic field densities of the two damping units were analyzed. After the prototype of the new MRF damper, a hydraulically actuated MTS machine was used to test the damper's performance, including stiffness variability and damping variability, amplitudedependent responses and frequency-dependent responses. A micro-hydromechanical deep-drawing (MHDD) apparatus for manufacturing a micro-complex-shape components and increasing of drawn cup accuracy has been developed in this study. This apparatus with simple tooling structure and forming process can achieve high dimensional accuracy using servo press mechanics with a double-action type, one-stroke forming process without transferring and positioning, force control, and fine flow rate control of the pressure medium. The developed MHDD apparatus can prevent wrinkling by applying an appropriate constant gap and Stably generate the counterpressure. Micro drawn cups of 0.8 mm diameter are successfully fabricated. This paper develops and simulates a dynamic general equilibrium macroeconomic model to analyze the likely impact of oil production and revenue rehabilitation on the Libyan economy, under different government fiscal policy responses. The model is ideally appropriate to analyze macroeconomic issues in oil-producing developing countries. In particular, it is capable of incorporating alternative government policy responses toward the allocation of the oil revenue either upon consumption spending or development spending in the form of government investment spending upon infrastructure, human capital formation and technology acquisition in non-oil production. In this paper, self-sensing technology was introduced into an adaptive tuned vibration absorber, incorporating a laminated magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) structure, a hybrid magnetic system and a self-sensing component. The adoption of the laminated MRE structure and the hybrid magnetic system enables the absorber to have higher lateral flexibility and a wider effective frequency range. The integration of the self-sensing capability allows the absorber to operate without sensors and, at the same time, greatly reduces costs, required space and maintenance. Adolescent gifted girls constantly engage with popular culture in their daily lives. All forms of media provide information about appearance, achievement, identity and success. The recent Strategic Insights paper Security through aid by Anthony Bergin and Sarah Hately on the use of aid and development assistance to enhance security gives attention to important but currently neglected opportunities to counter violent extremism. Those opportunities can be broadly conceptualised as positive and negative: positive building of resilience and negating the potential misuses of aid. In this post, I will focus on lessons to be learned from environmental management which could be applied to negating the misuse of aid and development assistance in a security context.

Following the onset of the Asian Financial Crisis the world has witnessed a re-accommodation of the global financial system. In the particular case of middle-income countries they have disentangled themselves from the conditionality of the IMF and grown into more assertive actors in international forums, proposing new alternative mechanisms to become more financially independent and for the provision of development assistance. This article critically reviews the new reality by assessing the strategies deployed by developing countries to reduce the IMF's influence, and explores the potential consequences of the rise of middle-income nations for Law and Development.

This study extends prior literature on social networking sites, e.g., Facebook, to an under researched context, Arab countries. In particular, this research compares the Arab and non-Arab youth in the UAE in terms of motivations, intensity of Facebook usage and their social capital development. With a survey study involving 123 students in the UAE, the results suggest that the need for socialization is a driving force for intensity of Facebook usage among the youth in the UAE, implying that the driving forces of Facebook usage are regional specific. Biopolymeric continuous core-sheath fibres, with an inner core of chitosan and alginate as the sheath, were fabricated for the first time without using a template. Hereby, the necessary conditions to achieve chitosan-alginate core-sheath fibre via a wet-spinning process are presented. SEM micrographs show the cylinder-shaped monofilament structure of the chitosan core surrounded by the alginate sheath. The coaxial fibres exhibit a 260% increase in ultimate stress and more than 300% enhancement in the Young's modulus compared to the alginate counterpart. Admitted rehabilitation activity accounts for an increasing proportion of health care expenditure in Australia. This presentation describes the development of a tool to predict demand for rehabilitation care generated by acute inpatient episodes provided in Australian public sector facilities. Previous work by Dr Lynette Lee identified a set of "rehabilitation-sensitive AR-DRGs" , or AR-DRGs from which patients are more likely to require subsequent rehabilitation. In developing the predictive tool, this earlier work was extended, primarily by quantifying the degree of sensitivity and by incorporating the patient's age.
