In this article, we propose and test a model to explain the determinants of an organization's IT budget. The research model extends prior research by providing a strong theoretical underpinning for the driving forces of IT budget, incorporating both dynamic and static contingencies internal to the organization, as well as from the external environment. We find that these contingencies are positively related to the IT budget decision. Our findings also demonstrate a moderating, as well as direct, effect of the industry strategic role of IT, contributing to previous research, which identifies only a direct effect. Drawing on a comprehensive database …

The speed with which the information technology has evolved is unparallel to any other technological evolution man has ever witnessed. From hospitals to classrooms, technology seems to have taken over people's lives. Where there have been studies to see the impact of technology in varying aspects of life, there seem to be little or no studies on the actual rate of increase in usage of e-technologies among university students and why they have become so popular. This paper uses a survey tool that captures responses from 900 students to study the rate of increase in student use of various e-technologies …

The objective of this paper is to investigate Supply Chain Management (SCM) performance of selected companies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) countries upon successful implementation of Information Technology (IT) applications. By carrying out an in-depth qualitative analysis, the paper seeks to evaluate how IT can enhance the SCM performance from a practitioner perspective. The survey results have indicated that respondents are aware that adopting IT does not necessarily translate to immediate benefits. Companies in UAE will, therefore, need to ‘educate’ their senior managers on using IT systems to streamline their supply chain operations, reduce cycle time and improve supply …

Increasingly, firms are leveraging external knowledge sources for key technological components in creating innovations. However, use of external sources raises concerns about appropriability of technology for the firm i.e. is the firm able to get the required technical knowledge from the external sources. To address this concern firms choose appropriate governance mechanism for their technology collaboration with the objective to reduce the transaction cost associated with the technology collaboration. One reason for transaction cost to arise in technology collaborations is related to the nature of the innovation being developed. Using the framework of Thompson’s classification of organizational technology, the paper …

With wide proliferation of Information technology (IT) in modern business, IT expenditure has become a regular yet strategic decision for most senior management. In this short article, we propose a model to explain the determinants of IT budget. Built upon the pioneer work by Dewan et al. [4] and Kobelsky et al. [5], we attempted to extend the prior research by providing a strong theoretical underpinning for the driving forces of IT budget, incorporating both dynamic and static contingencies from internal organization as well as external environment. The proposed model is aimed to provide a reference metric for IT budget …
