A Case Study Of Internal Auditing Practice In A State-Owned Enterprise In Indonesia, Helianti Utami
University of Wollongong Thesis Collection 1954-2016
nternal audit is an important internal control system that contributes to the success of an organisation by enhancing the quality of corporate governance through its oversight role. It also improves the control and monitoring environment of an organisation and mitigates fraud risk. However, the recent corporate collapses in developed countries such as the US and UK as well as increased corruption and fraudulent activities in corporations in developing countries such as Indonesia have raised doubts about the effectiveness of the internal audit function within organisations. Given this background, this study aims to investigate the internal audit practice in an Indonesian …
An Investigation Of The Educational Applications Of Interactive Television, Jann Roberts
An Investigation Of The Educational Applications Of Interactive Television, Jann Roberts
University of Wollongong Thesis Collection 1954-2016
The research reported here is an investigation into the educational applications of interactive television (ITV). It was prompted by the need to address the problem of lack of engagement of learners in more “traditional” pen and paper learning environments. The report comprises a multiple case study, consisting of 2 cases of ITV production units, and one case of an ITV research institute. Socio-‐constructivist theories of learning, coupled with the theory of technological determinism, have provided the theoretical framework. The methodology is predominantly qualitative. Data collection methods include reading appropriate literature, observing ITV production units, and carrying out interviews. Eight participants …
The Role Of Information And Communication Technologies In Enhancing Customer Relationships In The Libyan Banking Sector, Fouad Omran Salem Elgahwash
The Role Of Information And Communication Technologies In Enhancing Customer Relationships In The Libyan Banking Sector, Fouad Omran Salem Elgahwash
University of Wollongong Thesis Collection 1954-2016
Significant changes in the business environment globally have forced the banking sector to modify their service strategies. One of the primary goals of banks is now to leverage advances in information and communication technologies (ICT) to build and maintain long-lasting relationships with customers through the adoption of new channels that facilitate electronic banking. The literature has identified that ICTs are an ideal medium for carrying out banking activities with customers due to the cost savings offered and speed of information transmission.
While the global banking sector is one of the most up-to-date industries with regard to the use of the …
A Case Study Of Knowledge Management Adoption In An Australian Professional Organisation, Matthew Bowden
A Case Study Of Knowledge Management Adoption In An Australian Professional Organisation, Matthew Bowden
University of Wollongong Thesis Collection 1954-2016
This research investigates the adoption of knowledge management (KM) in knowledge-intensive professional organisations. This thesis defines what KM is and how it relates to knowledge-intensive organisations like professional organisations. It also defines the related concept of business intelligence (BI) and discusses the relationship between BI and KM and the impact that this relationship has on an organisation. Furthermore, the thesis examines different organisational structures and identifies the professional organisation as being the one particular type whose internal structure makes it a prime candidate for KM.
The literature presents both a wide variety of approaches to the acquisition or deployment of …
An Exploratory Case Study Of A Not For Profit Learning Organisation, Terence J. Froggatt
An Exploratory Case Study Of A Not For Profit Learning Organisation, Terence J. Froggatt
University of Wollongong Thesis Collection 1954-2016
This exploratory case study is situated in a not-for-profit learning organisation. Learning organisations have been put forward as "an organisation that is continually expanding its capacity to create its future” (Senge 1990, p. 14). Although learning organisations have been discussed extensively in the literature, there has been little empirical evidence that unequivocally demonstrates their actual existence.
The research question for this study was: To what extent do concepts of learning organisations exist and to what extent are such concepts operationalised at the NFPO.
The aims of this study were to explore:
• If the concepts of learning organisations existed in …
A Framework To Guide Professional Learning And Reflective Practice, Bronwyn Hegarty
A Framework To Guide Professional Learning And Reflective Practice, Bronwyn Hegarty
University of Wollongong Thesis Collection 1954-2016
The exploratory qualitative case study investigated a previously untested framework to scaffold reflective writing about professional practice. The framework was based on the concepts of paying attention and noticing events in practice and used a theoretical framework informed by a number of researchers (e.g. Boud & Walker, 1990; Boud et al., 1985; Rodgers, 2002b; Tremmel, 1993). Recommendations from a small preliminary study, in which reflective strategies were used to scaffold the development of a professional portfolio, also influenced the design of the intervention in the main study.
A variety of methods were used to analyse the data collected, including descriptive …
Human Influence On The Adoption Of Lean Strategy In The Process Industries: A Case Study Of An Australian Steel-Manufacturer, I. Alony
University of Wollongong Thesis Collection 1954-2016
Lean strategy has become widely recognised since it was first popularised by the Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota. However, despite its promised benefits and widespread proliferation, Lean strategy has not been extensively adopted in process industries (e.g., steel-making). This study examines an unsuccessful attempt to implement Lean strategy in a large Australian steel-manufacturing organisation, and pays particular attention to factors influencing scheduling decisions. This attention to scheduling decisions is both unique to the literature and crucial to a deeper understanding of Lean strategy enactment.
Multiple facets are involved in the complex implementation of Lean strategy, and thus this study draws on …
