A Chi-Square Method For Priority Derivation In Group Decision Making With Incomplete Reciprocal Preference Relations, Yejun Xu, Lei Chen, Kevin Li, Huimin Wang Jun 2015

A Chi-Square Method For Priority Derivation In Group Decision Making With Incomplete Reciprocal Preference Relations, Yejun Xu, Lei Chen, Kevin Li, Huimin Wang

Odette School of Business Publications

This paper proposes a chi-square method (CSM) to obtain a priority vector for group decision making (GDM) problems where decision-makers’ (DMs’) assessment on alternatives is furnished as incomplete reciprocal preference relations with missing values. Relevant theorems and an iterative algorithm about CSM are proposed. Saaty’s consistency ratio concept is adapted to judge whether an incomplete reciprocal preference relation provided by a DM is of acceptable consistency. If its consistency is unacceptable, an algorithm is proposed to repair it until its consistency ratio reaches a satisfactory threshold. The repairing algorithm aims to rectify an inconsistent incomplete reciprocal preference relation to one …

Comparing Outgoing Female Ceos With Prior Ceo Experience To Outgoing Female Ceos With No Prior Ceo Experience, Eahab Elsaid Jun 2015

Comparing Outgoing Female Ceos With Prior Ceo Experience To Outgoing Female Ceos With No Prior Ceo Experience, Eahab Elsaid

Odette School of Business Publications

It is difficult for females to climb the corporate ladder to the CEO position. Most of the previous research examines the obstacles that prevent females from reaching top management positions and ultimately the top position of CEO. In this study we examine this issue from the opposite side, i.e., we examine CEO successions were the outgoing CEO is female and the incoming CEO is male. We distinguish between outgoing female CEO successors who have prior CEO experience and those who do not have prior CEO experience. We find that prior CEO experience is positively related to the outgoing female CEO …

A Multi-Step Goal Programming Approach For Group Decision Making With Incomplete Interval Additive Reciprocal Comparison Matrices, Zhou-Jing Wang, Kevin Li May 2015

A Multi-Step Goal Programming Approach For Group Decision Making With Incomplete Interval Additive Reciprocal Comparison Matrices, Zhou-Jing Wang, Kevin Li

Odette School of Business Publications

This article presents a goal programming framework to solve group decision making problems where decision-makers’ judgments are provided as incomplete interval additive reciprocal comparison matrices (IARCMs). New properties of multiplicative consistent IARCMs are put forward and used to define consistent incomplete IARCMs. A two-step goal programming method is developed to estimate missing values for an incomplete IARCM. The first step minimizes the inconsistency of the completed IARCMs and controls uncertainty ratios of the estimated judgments within an acceptable threshold, and the second step finds the most appropriate estimated missing values among the optimal solutions obtained from the previous step. A …

Distribution Channel Strategies In A Mixed Market, Junsong Bian, Xiaolei Guo, Kevin Li Apr 2015

Distribution Channel Strategies In A Mixed Market, Junsong Bian, Xiaolei Guo, Kevin Li

Odette School of Business Publications

This paper studies equilibrium channel strategies in a mixed market with a public firm and a private firm. The public firm is concerned with social welfare, while the private firm aims to maximize its own profit. Each firm decides whether to adopt an integrated or a decentralized channel. We examine two standard market competition modes, Bertrand and Cournot. Within each competition mode, we consider two typical vertical contracts, wholesale-price and two-part tariff contracts. Our results suggest that equilibrium channel structures depend on the market competition mode, the vertical contract form, and the level of product substitutability. Specifically, the channel strategy …

Quantitative Research And The Critical Accounting Project, Alan J. Richardson Jan 2015

Quantitative Research And The Critical Accounting Project, Alan J. Richardson

Odette School of Business Publications

The critical accounting project has largely shunned quantitative methods. While this is partly justified on philosophical grounds, the potential for quantitative methods to contribute to the critical accounting project is significant. This paper reviews the position of quantitative methods within critical theory and attempts to reclaim quantitative methods as a legitimate form of critical accounting research. The paper then identifies some aspects of the untapped potential of quantitative methods for the critical accounting project including exploring the vast unexplained variance in market models, developing alternative dependent variables for analysis, providing descriptive baselines for the assessment of social transformations, and the …

The Cost Of A Telegram: The Evolution Of The International Regulation Of The Telegraph, Alan J. Richardson Jan 2015

The Cost Of A Telegram: The Evolution Of The International Regulation Of The Telegraph, Alan J. Richardson

Odette School of Business Publications

The telegraph was the first practical use of electricity. It revolutionized commercial communication and facilitated the globalization of business. As the telegraph developed as a medium of international communication, regulation was needed to overcome administrative and technical issues, and, importantly, to establish accounting procedures for the distribution of the revenue to multiple national partners. This paper traces the evolution of revenue allocation models through three international organizations that ultimately lead to the creation of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in 1932. The shifts in revenue allocation methods are consistent with a shift in focus of regulation from growth to efficiency …

Working Papaer: A Quantitative Analysis Of Eportfolio Reflective Learning On Personal Leadership Development, Martha A. Reavley, Martha A. Reavley Jan 2015

Working Papaer: A Quantitative Analysis Of Eportfolio Reflective Learning On Personal Leadership Development, Martha A. Reavley, Martha A. Reavley

Odette School of Business Publications

In this pilot study, ePortfolios were used to digitally present reflective learning on aspects of personal leadership in a graduate management course in Interpersonal Dynamics. Thirty- three students participated. Students reflected on personal leadership development, in particular, the attributes of the fundamental state of leadership (Quinn, 2004) and authentic Leadership (George, 2003). Results indicated that students adept at reflective practices over the semester. They began to transform in their thinking, reporting more of the attributes ascribed to authentic leaders. Reflective practices were not sustained beyond this course. It is recommended that ePortfolio-based learning be used in promoting reflective practices and …

Efficient Aircraft Spare Parts Inventory Management Under Demand Uncertainty, Jingyao Gu, Guoqing Zhang, Kevin Li Jan 2015

Efficient Aircraft Spare Parts Inventory Management Under Demand Uncertainty, Jingyao Gu, Guoqing Zhang, Kevin Li

Odette School of Business Publications

In airline industries, the aircraft maintenance cost takes up about 13% of the total operating cost. It can be reduced by a good planning. Spare parts inventories exist to serve the maintenance planning. Compared with commonly used reorder point system (ROP) and forecasting methods which only consider historical data, this paper presents two non-linear programming models which predict impending demands based on installed parts failure distribution. The optimal order time and order quantity can be found by minimizing total cost. The first basic mathematical model assumes shortage period starts from mean time to failure (MTTF). An iteration method and GAMS …
