Towards Engineering Reliable Keystroke Biometrics Systems, Anjali Parag Shah Jul 2020

Towards Engineering Reliable Keystroke Biometrics Systems, Anjali Parag Shah

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In this thesis, we argue that most of the work in the literature on behavioural-based biometric systems using AI and machine learning is immature and unreliable. Our analysis and experimental results show that designing reliable behavioural-based biometric systems requires a systematic and complicated process. We first discuss the limitation in existing work and the use of conventional machine learning methods. We use the biometric zoos theory to demonstrate the challenge of designing reliable behavioural-based biometric systems. Then, we outline the common problems in engineering reliable biometric systems. In particular, we focus on the need for novelty detection machine learning models …

Machine Learning Approaches For Identifying Cancer Biomarkers Using Next Generation Sequencing, Osama Hamzeh Jul 2020

Machine Learning Approaches For Identifying Cancer Biomarkers Using Next Generation Sequencing, Osama Hamzeh

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Identifying biomarkers that can be used to classify certain disease stages or predict when a disease becomes more aggressive is one of the most important applications of machine learning. Next generation sequencing (NGS) is a state-of-the-art method that enables fast sequencing of DNA or RNA samples. The output usually contains a very large file that consists of base pairs of DNA or RNA. The generated data can be analyzed to provide gene expression, chromosome counting, detection of mutations on the genes, and detecting levels of copy number variations or alterations in specific genes, just as examples. NGS is leading the …

An Approach Of Qos Evaluation For Web Services Design With Optimized Avoidance Of Sla Violations, Peng Cheng Mar 2020

An Approach Of Qos Evaluation For Web Services Design With Optimized Avoidance Of Sla Violations, Peng Cheng

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Quality of service (QoS) is an official agreement that governs the contractual commitments between service providers and consumers in respect to various nonfunctional requirements, such as performance, dependability, and security. While more Web services are available for the construction of software systems based upon service-oriented architecture (SOA), QoS has become a decisive factor for service consumers to choose from service providers who provide similar services. QoS is usually documented on a service-level agreement (SLA) to ensure the functionality and quality of services and to define monetary penalties in case of any violation of the written agreement. Consequently, service providers have …
