Lakewide And Nearshore Microbial Water Quality Modelling In Lake St. Clair, Mohammad Madani Aug 2020

Lakewide And Nearshore Microbial Water Quality Modelling In Lake St. Clair, Mohammad Madani

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Lake St. Clair is a freshwater lake in the Lake Huron to Erie corridor in the Great Lakes Basin. Millions of people in Canada and the United States rely on that water source for drinking, fishing and recreational purposes. Lake St. Clair’s watershed is heavily impacted by human activity, which can result in contamination of its waters by fecal matter of human or animal origin containing waterborne pathogens, and thus pose a direct threat to human health. Common sources of such pollution include combined sewer overflows, wastewater treatment plant bypasses, and agricultural application of manure derived from animal fecal waste. …

Microbial Water Quality Modelling Of The Detroit River, Monika Saha Jul 2020

Microbial Water Quality Modelling Of The Detroit River, Monika Saha

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Detroit River is an important connecting channel of the Great Lakes system that is supplying drinking water to the surrounding people of US and Canada. In this study, an integrated hydrodynamic and microbial water quality model of the Detroit River is developed using TUFLOW-FV and AED2+ modelling framework, to simulate E. coli concentration at two Canadian drinking water intake locations. The high resolution three-dimensional hydrodynamic model is verified by comparing simulated water level, flow and water temperature with observed data from summer 2016. The model output is in good agreement with observed data showing RMSE, MAE and R2 of 0.04 …
