A Comparison Between Selected Aspects Of The National Curriculum In England And Wales And The Common Curriculum In Ontario, With Particular Reference To The Science Programs In Both Systems., Bernard. Taylor

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study argues that the Transition Years science programs in Ontario, when compared with the National Curriculum science programs for Key Stage 3 in England and Wales, are being implemented in ways which: are less assessment driven, promote a wider variety of teaching methods, give teachers more ownership of the curriculum, and are less centralised. In investigating these hypotheses the researcher looked at the historical background to recent curriculum changes in Ontario, and in England and Wales, as well as interviewing teachers, principals and headteachers, and administering questionnaires, in both Ontario and England and Wales. The study showed that the …

Field Independence-Dependence, Self-Concept And Playfulness In Preadolescents., Sandra Leanne. Bosacki

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The primary purpose of this paper was to investigate the relationships between field independence-dependence (FI-FD), self-concept and playfulness in preadolescent girls and boys. Sixty-three sixth-grade students (33 girls, 30 boys) from four classes in three schools in Southwestern Ontario participated in the study, with each student completing the Group Embedded Figures Test (GEFT; Witkin, Oltman & Raskin, 1971) and The Self-Esteem Inventory (SEI; Coopersmith, 1967). The students' current teachers (2 female, 2 male) and those from the previous year (2 female, 3 male) completed the Playfulness-NonPlayfulness Scale (PF-NonPF; Lieberman, 1977a). Effects Of Cognitive Awareness Training On Adolescent Adhd Boys In A Semestered Secondary Setting., V. Elizabeth. Symons

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Utilizing a cognitive awareness training program, this study sought to develop a viable group support system for 4 adolescent boys in a semestered secondary setting. Locally there were no support programs available to them. It was felt that a heightened sense of cognitive awareness brought about by increasing their knowledge of the etiologies, methods of diagnosis and assessment, treatments, and interventions for ADHD would enable them to perform better academically and be involved in less frequent bouts of disruptive behavior in their classrooms. These results would be reflected tangibly in their classroom teachers' perception of the severity of their behavior, …
