The focus of this phenomenological inquiry was the question: What is the meaning (essential structure) of the experience of being cared for as lived by female nurses? The purpose of this study was to explore and describe the experience of being cared for. Phenomenologic methodology was used for this study. Data analysis was patterned after the guidelines set out by Colaizzi, and Miles and Huberman. Fifteen female nurses described their experiences of being cared for during two interviews with the researcher. There has been a significant increase in the number of American women in athletics in colleges and universities during the twentieth century. The purpose of this research was to identify and trace the historical development of the women's athletic programs at community colleges in San Diego County from 1955-1972. This study was also designed to identify the leaders and the leadership abilities which enabled these women to develop successful women's athletic programs. The research design used was the historical method. Three types of historical sources were utilized: documents, quantitative records and oral histories. The increasing numbers of women entering the work force have created a greater need for accessible, quality, and affordable child care. Concurrently there is rising concern about the transmission of infection in child care settings. There is evidence, but no consensus, that breastfeeding may offer protection from infection, especially during the first months of life. However, employed/student mothers report that efforts to maintain breastfeeding are not well supported at the work/school site.
