Where Reality Meets Fantasy, Kendall Rankin May 2019

Where Reality Meets Fantasy, Kendall Rankin

Senior Honors Projects

“Fantasy and reality often overlap,” was once said by Walt Disney. In my story, Where Reality Meets Fantasy, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and Gelatoni, from DisneySea, dive into the world of employment law and how it affects the Walt Disney Company.

Walt Disney loved storytelling and it is demonstrated in his movies and parks. With his company’s emphasis on safety, courtesy, show and efficiency, Disney wanted not only his guests but also his cast members to enjoy being at the Happiest Place on Earth. With laws like the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 and the Civil Rights …

A Guide To Leadership Development At A Company, Bridget Nobiletti Apr 2019

A Guide To Leadership Development At A Company, Bridget Nobiletti

Senior Honors Projects

Leadership development is essential for companies because it drives a company’s effectiveness in reaching its goal and promotes growth among employees, causing them to want to stay with the company. Knowing how to develop employee leadership is complex because it is largely dependent on the individual and their role within the organization. I interviewed leadership professionals and human resource professionals who have experience in leadership development to guide my research. I broke up management into three categories and found that the different segments of management need different skills in order to be effective at their jobs. The first step to …

The Beauty Of Business, Steve Leone, Kate Marcellino

Senior Honors Projects

I co-founded Humans of URI my freshman year with the intention of highlighting the diverse population at URI through their stories. We still maintain the page today and authenticity has always been an integral pillar. This experience has given me a profound appreciation for the students I pass by every single day and the understanding that everyone has a unique story. What if the College of Business could fuse storytelling with marketing? I aim to showcase the authentically beautiful community at the College of Business.

Deciding on a University and then an academic college are very difficult and impactful decisions …

Is America Still Free?, Connor P. Daigle May 2015

Is America Still Free?, Connor P. Daigle

Senior Honors Projects

If we take a moment and observe our current societal landscape, we may be intrigued by what we find. If we paint a broad brush over the 21st century, we are engaged in war in the Middle East, we have allowed our politicians to purchase their seats in office, and have overcome two large economic downturns. The economic issues are the collapse of Enron, the world’s largest energy supplier, and the housing market collapse of 2008. How many know what actually created the housing bubble? How many know about Enron? How many American Citizens understand how our current society …

Return On Involvement: The True Roi, Paul A. Knott May 2014

Return On Involvement: The True Roi, Paul A. Knott

Senior Honors Projects

In recent years, there has been a much larger emphasis placed upon the importance of student involvement to achieve success, especially at the collegiate level. Research has shown that involvement not only helps students to practice better time management skills, but also allows them to connect with and learn from other students who share similar interests and passions. At the college level, students who become involved often feel connected to the school and as if they can actually make a difference. I am hoping to explore this topic through my Senior Honors Project to further understand the effects that student …

The Green Bean Coffee House: An Exploration Of The Specialty Coffee Industry And Sustainable Business Practices, Evan Hunt May 2009

The Green Bean Coffee House: An Exploration Of The Specialty Coffee Industry And Sustainable Business Practices, Evan Hunt

Senior Honors Projects

Many Americans are getting sick of the way things have become and the way things are, from the government to the quality of food we put into our bodies. We are upon a new frontier, people are changing the way they live and consume. The days of quantity over quality are fading. Many consumers are making purchases and consumption decisions based on more than a simple cost analysis. How and where a given product was produced, whether or not the trade involved of a given product was truly ethical, and what are the environmental implications of getting that product to …

Corporate Ethics And Ceo Compensation, Martin Mack May 2008

Corporate Ethics And Ceo Compensation, Martin Mack

Senior Honors Projects

Corporate ethics and chief executive officer (CEO) compensation will be forever linked together. The dramatic increase in recent corporate scandals has driven increased scrutiny of the enormous executive salaries that CEOs collect each year. The connection between these two topics led me to explore how executive compensation plans are designed and how ethics affect executives’ decision making. In this paper I try to determine which financial factors are the best indicators of a CEO’s compensation. I also examine how profitable a company is with an ethical CEO compared to a company with an unethical CEO. The companies I use are …

La Mondialisation Qui Menace L’Identité Française Et Ses Relations Avec Le Commerce, Kelly Mcbrien May 2007

La Mondialisation Qui Menace L’Identité Française Et Ses Relations Avec Le Commerce, Kelly Mcbrien

Senior Honors Projects

Globalization is an integral part of our society today: economically, socially and politically. Some may see Globalization as the world coming together through the ease and speed of capital, goods, services, ideas, information, and technology across our “shrinking” borders. Others may hold a more negative view of Globalization, and may see it as simply growing conflicts between nations and cultures. One of the central problems of globalization is the fear of homogenization or Americanization. Many cultures see globalization as cultural uniformity. As Benedict Anderson has said, “one man’s imagined community is another mans political prison.” This quote can help to …
