North Atlantic Current Inverted Echo Sounder Data Report, Karen L. Tracey, Christopher S. Meinen, D. Randolph Watts

Physical Oceanography Technical Reports

This report focuses on data from inverted echo sounders with pressure gauges (PIES) spanning the North Atlantic Current (NAC) east of the Grand Banks collected during August 1993 to July 1995. In this report the collection, processing and calibration of the PIES data are described and plotted. The measurements were made under the support of the Office of Naval Research and the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration. Other data collected as part of the experiment included conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) hydrographic surveys and velocity measurements obtained with moored current meters, shipboard acoustic Doppler current profilers, and POGO floats. Thank you letter and program evaluations for a workshop, "Your Ticket to the Information Highway," sponsored by the Institute for Labor Studies and Research (ILSR). The workshop was held on November 15, 1996 in Providence, Rhode Island.

The purpose of the three-hour workshop was to “provide a basic understanding of the Internet, demonstrate labor-related sites, and give [participants] hands-on experience ‘surfing the Net.’” The workshop was one of a series of three intended to help participants become more effective union leaders. It received unanimously positive evaluations from the ten participants.

We compared 2 methods of direct gene delivery into live rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss tissue, with the final goal of developing DNA-based vaccines for bacterial diseases in salmonids. The introduction of plasmid constructs containing the luciferase and β-galactosidase reporter genes was achieved either by direct injection or by particle bombardment with DNA-coated gold microparticles. Luciferase expression was observed in homogenates of trout flank muscle and skin 2 d after injection of 10 to 100 pg of DNA per fish or bombardment of 1 pm gold particles coated with 5 to 25 pg DNA per fish at helium pressures ranging from …

The dynamical properties at T = 0 of the one-dimensional (1D) s = 1/2 nearest-neighbor (NN) XXZ model with an additional isotropic next-nearest-neighbor (NNN) coupling are investigated by means of the recursion method in combination with a weak-coupling continued-fraction analysis. The focus is on the dynamic structure factors S_zz(q,ω) and S_DD(q,ω), which describe (for q = π) the fluctuations of the Néel and dimer order parameters, respectively.
