A Study Of A Plane Dislocation Problem, Daniel D. Kana Dec 1960

A Study Of A Plane Dislocation Problem, Daniel D. Kana

Mechanical Engineering ETDs

This paper treats a more complete solution to the logarithmic spiral problem. Some changes in the basic dislocation theory are first accomplished to generalize the form of functions involved. The resulting equations are then applied to the logarithmic spiral dislocation at a hole in a large plate. A complete solution of pertinent stresses is obtained. Data are calculated to obtain the required dislocation relation along the logarithmic spiral cut, circumferential stress at the hole, and maximum shear stress along the dislocation cut.

A Numerical Treatment Of One-Dimensional Non-Steady Compressible Flows, Paul J. Kazek Nov 1960

A Numerical Treatment Of One-Dimensional Non-Steady Compressible Flows, Paul J. Kazek

Mathematics & Statistics ETDs

The problem that will be considered here will be the flow in a cylinder filled with a homogeneous ideal gas, bounded on one end by a vacuum and/or a rigid wall with the motion initiated by a piston on the other end. First, the basic Lagrangian differential equations will be derived along with other necessary thermodynamical relations. A scheme of difference equations will be presented and the viscosity term discussed as well as a method for insuring stability of the difference equations during the calculations

Recommended Guidance Services Based On Teachers' Opinions, Walter T. Carter Nov 1960

Recommended Guidance Services Based On Teachers' Opinions, Walter T. Carter

Individual, Family, and Community Education ETDs

The purpose of the study was to determine what combination of activities and services constitutes an adequate guidance program. Specifically, the study examined the following three aspects of a guidance program: (1) the role of the staff: principal, coordinator of guidance services, counselor, and the classroom teachers, in providing services and activities of the guidance program; (2) the relative importance of various guidance activities and services; (3) organizational principles for an adequate guidance program. The study was made to ascertain classroom teachers' ideas on an ideal guidance program and in response to the problem cited in the introduction.

The Las Palomas Manuscript Of Los Pastores, Elena Bernal Nov 1960

The Las Palomas Manuscript Of Los Pastores, Elena Bernal

English Language and Literature ETDs

The Los Pastores, or Shepherd's Play is the traditional Nativity play which is performed yearly during the Christmas season in those areas where the Spanish-speaking folk still hold to the traditional pattern of celebrating the Nochebuena or Christmas Eve. This genre of folk drama extends over a wide area of the American Southwest: in New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, Arizona, California, and parts of Mexico. Particularly in New Mexico in the more or less isolated but rapidly changing Spanish-speaking communities, the Spanish miracle play has managed to survive as an expression of sincere, religious devotion.

The Mexican Federalist-Centralist Struggle, 1824-1860, Michael C. Meyer Nov 1960

The Mexican Federalist-Centralist Struggle, 1824-1860, Michael C. Meyer

History ETDs

The problem of Mexican Federalism has been seriously debated by Latin American historians and political theorists. Does the present Mexican political structure, when viewed in conjunction with the unique functioning of Mexican Politics, justify the federal designation? Conscientious observers are in close unanimity on the answer. Federalism, in the "traditional" sense of the word, does not exist in Mexico today. As one leading observer has stated, "the seeds of centralism were sowed at Querétaro despite the adoption of the federal form provided for the 1917 constitution." Numerous studies appearing both in books and periodicals have reached the same conclusion. It …
