Transcriptional Silencing Of Cdk18 And Its Role In Lung Carcinogenesis Of Brg1-Mutant Lung Cancers, Loryn M. Phillips Apr 2023

Transcriptional Silencing Of Cdk18 And Its Role In Lung Carcinogenesis Of Brg1-Mutant Lung Cancers, Loryn M. Phillips

Biology ETDs

BRG1 is mutated in 10% of lung cancers, making this mutation clinically relevant. The downstream effects of BRG1 included significantly affecting the cell cycle control and chromosomal replication pathway. CDK18, a cyclin-dependent kinase, was determined to be the gene with significantly decreased expression (p

Transcriptional Analysis Of Schistosoma Mansoni Treated With Sub-Lethal Doses Of The Anthelmintic Drug Praziquantel, Jarrett Hines-Kay Jul 2011

Transcriptional Analysis Of Schistosoma Mansoni Treated With Sub-Lethal Doses Of The Anthelmintic Drug Praziquantel, Jarrett Hines-Kay

Biology ETDs

Schistosoma mansoni is one of the most common etiological agents responsible for the disease schistosomiasis. More than 200 million people suffer from this disease making it the most severe tropical disease after malaria in terms of morbidity. Praziquantel (PZQ) is the treatment of choice for schistosomiasis and has been used almost exclusively to treat the disease since the 1970s. However, while the drug is lethal for sexually mature schistosomes, it is ineffective against juveniles. Thus, while morbidity can be eased, a cure is difficult to achieve. As a result there is an urgent need to develop a new generation of …

Temporal Dynamics And Spatial Analysis Of Competing Dengue 2 Virus Strains In The Americas, Stacy O'Neil Scholle Jul 2010

Temporal Dynamics And Spatial Analysis Of Competing Dengue 2 Virus Strains In The Americas, Stacy O'Neil Scholle

Biology ETDs

The dengue virus is the causative agent of an important re-emerging infectious disease that has become increasingly significant in tropical America and the Caribbean due to the infiltration of a more pathogenic Asian/American strain of dengue serotype 2 into the population. This invading strain is responsible for epidemics of dengue hemorrhagic fever, a life-threatening disease that was not previously a large public health concern in the region. Here, I create a historical map of the invasion and replacement of the endemic American strain of dengue 2 by the Asian/American strain, showing that the timing of invasion spans 25 years, and …

Metabolic Rate And Body Weight Measurements Of Dipodomys Ordi And D. Merriami Under Various Stresses Of Dehydration, Nancy Rose Benally Feb 1962

Metabolic Rate And Body Weight Measurements Of Dipodomys Ordi And D. Merriami Under Various Stresses Of Dehydration, Nancy Rose Benally

Biology ETDs

It is of interest to investigate the possible effect of a new synthetic steroid, Aldactone, on the total body weight of the rodent Dipodomys. In addition, the present study includes the effect of dehydration and of high salt intake on the oxygen consumption of the Dipodomys, in a resting state.

Serum Protein Electrophoresis Study Of Citellus Species, Rondal E. Bell May 1960

Serum Protein Electrophoresis Study Of Citellus Species, Rondal E. Bell

Biology ETDs

The systematic separation of species of the genus Citellus is based principally on external and cranial features. These features are well known in most of the genus, but there has been considerable uncertainty concerning the subgeneric allocation and a more comprehensive study is needed.

A Survey Of The Attention Given To Population Problems By Physical And Social Science Societies, Morton K. Ohlson Sep 1958

A Survey Of The Attention Given To Population Problems By Physical And Social Science Societies, Morton K. Ohlson

Economics ETDs

It is the purpose of this thesis to examine the publications of leading physical and social science societies 1946 through 1956 with a view to finding out the degree of importance that they attach to the world's present rate of population growth. As a result of this examination of scientific literature it is the thesis of this paper that the overwhelming majority of social and physical scientists believe that the present rate of growth of the world's population is one of the most contemporary problems. The attention given has been uneven among the scientific societies. Some have devoted an adequate …

Aristotle's View Of Biological Evolution: A Study Of The Presuppositions Of Aristotle's Biology And Their Influence On His Biological Inquiries, Howard J. Sherman Jun 1956

Aristotle's View Of Biological Evolution: A Study Of The Presuppositions Of Aristotle's Biology And Their Influence On His Biological Inquiries, Howard J. Sherman

Philosophy ETDs

It is the purpose of this study to describe Aristotle's "set of presuppositions" as they relate to one science--biology--to lay bare, as it were, the framework within which biological knowledge for Aristotle is to be understood. It shall assume that Aristotle, like any philosopher, has two kinds presuppositions, each of which properly understood may serve to elucidate the other.
