This report assesses the potential for arts and cultural industries of Farmington, New Mexico. The study was done in three parts: an inventory of the "creative" economy of the Farmington area, including all of San Juan County; followed by a community-based survey of artists, retailers, and others engaged in the area's arts industries; concluding with an analysis of the economic impact of the local creative economy. Undertaken at the request of the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, BBER compiled data to quantify the demand for programs at the new UNM West campus in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. The report includes an estimate of the campus's catchment area based upon drive-time analyses; demographic information on the population within the catchment area; an inventory and map of existing businesses that could serve the campus students and staff; and summaries of interviews conducted by BBER with business and community leaders on their "hopes and visions" for the UNM West campus. In 2009 UNM-BBER investigated the arts and cultural (A & C) economy in Raton, New Mexico, with a focus on an inventory and assessment of the communitys cultural assets. The Bureau of Business and Economic Research (BBER) at the University of New Mexico conducted a survey of apartment properties in communities across the state for the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority (MFA). The survey was undertaken in May 2009, with non-response follow-up extending into mid-July. Vacancy and rent data for mid-May, along with the year the structure was built, were requested for apartment complexes with five or more units. This report presents the findings of an investigation into the arts and cultural industries of Los Alamos, New Mexico. The study was done in three parts: an inventory of the "creative" economy of the Los Alamos area; a community-based survey of artists, historians, retailers, and others engaged in the area's creative industries; an analysis of the impact of and trends in the creative economy of the Los Alamos area. An analysis of economic conditions in Lovington, New Mexico, commissioned for its MainStreet program. The regional trade area surrounding Lovington (as determined by drive time analysis), and its downtown MainStreet district are described and displayed in color maps. Selected demographic, housing, and economic data for both Lovington and Lea County are examined. An analysis of pull factors revealed that Lovington has a net inflow of gross receipt tax revenues, largely due to oil and gas industry revenues. Lovington faces many challenges, including flat population growth, low educational achievement levels, a severe housing shortage, and the volatility of the petroleum industry. …
