It is the purpose of this study (1) to present the status and types of extraclass activities in Lutheran elementary schools of the West and Mid-West; (2) to state the positive contributions made by a balanced extraclass program toward a well-rounded education for children; (3) to suggest possible ways in which small schools can include activity programs to enrich the curricula; and (4) to give a summary of the findings with recommendations for improvement of extraclass activities in Lutheran elementary schools. Statement of the problem. The purpose of this study is three-fold:

(1) to discover the degree to which high school pupils, the majority of whom are in their terminal year of high school mathematics, are functionally competent in the subject as determined by their achievement on the Davis Test of Functional Competence in Mathematics.

(2) to ascertain to what degree pupils manifesting mathematical competency are dependent on such factors as intelligence, mathematical aptitude, and ability in arithmetic as measured by results obtained on certain tests purporting to measure those factors.

These discussions resulted in many resolutions which appeared in the early issue of the Proceedings.
