The Relationship Between Attitude Toward Economic Issues And Delivery Of Human Caring In Perioperative Nursing, Candice V King

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

While human caring remains an important aspect of nursing, the financial pressures facing the healthcare economy calls for nurses to work more cost-effectively. Using Watson's model of Human Care as the conceptual framework, this study looked at the relationship between attitudes toward economic issues and human caring in perioperative nursing; The NCAS and BHNAS self-reporting scales consisted of a total of 80 items that measured nurses' attitudes regarding cost-effective practice and caring. The sample size was composed of both perioperative nurse managers and staff nurses (n = 34). Data was analyzed utilizing frequency distribution, the Pearson Product Moment Correlation technique, …

Importance Of Nurse Caring Behaviors As Perceived By Patients After Myocardial Infarction: A Replication Study, Larae Mcclellan Ward Jan 1995

Importance Of Nurse Caring Behaviors As Perceived By Patients After Myocardial Infarction: A Replication Study, Larae Mcclellan Ward

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

This study replicates Cronin and Harrison's (1988) study which examined nurse caring behaviors perceived by myocardial infarction (MI) patients (n = 40) using the Caring Behaviors Assessment (CBA). Reliability ranged from 0.69 to 0.89. Findings support Cronin and Harrison's study (1988), with items as "knows how to handle equipment", "check my condition closely", and "knows how to give shots, IV's, etc." as most important nurse caring behaviors. "Talk to me about my life outside the hospital" and "visit me if I move to another hospital unit" were identified as least important nurse caring behaviors. No findings at the p = …

Nurse Caring Behaviors As Perceived By The Emergency Room Nurse And The Emergency Room Patient: A Comparative Study, Carolyn Thatcher Whipple

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to determine what emergency room nurses (n = 60) and emergency room patients (n = 60) perceived as caring behaviors, as measured by the Caring Behaviors Assessment (CBA) tool. Unlike other studies the emergency room nurse ranked technical skills, "Know how to give shots, IV's, etc." as most important. The nurse ranked many of the helping and feeling cares significantly higher than the patient. There were eleven areas of correlation, between the demographics and the CBA subscales, with a significance level set at p =.05. Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient for the CBA tool was.96. …

Interpretations Of The Meaning Of Care: Creating Caring Relationships In A Middle School Classroom, Nora Irene Alder

UNLV Retrospective Theses & Dissertations

The purpose of this year long interpretive study was to examine the creation of caring relationships among and the meanings of care to middle school students and their teacher. Specifically, I asked what care means to middle school aged students and their teacher; how caring relationships are created by middle school students and their teacher; and what influences support a teacher's inclination to care?;Because caring relationships are interactive and subject to the interpretations of the people involved in those relationships, symbolic interactionism was the framework for the study. Qualitative methodology for data gathering and the constant comparative method of data …
