Factors Affecting Participation In Senior Center Programs, Betty J. Jefferson

This study investigated whether the factors of relationships, recreation, relatedness, and reward would affect participation in senior centers. Demographic variables of age, sex, and socio-economic status and enabling variables of health, transportation, and income were also investigated. Data were collected from a sample of 57 older adults (aged 55 and over) from three Las Vegas Senior Centers using an instrument developed by the investigator. Findings revealed that relationships, recreation, and relatedness contributed to reasons for participation. Rewards did not seem to affect participation. In terms of demographics, more participants tended to be older, female, and educated. Enabling variables revealed participants …

David Mamet's American Buffalo, Glengarry Glen Ross, and Speed-the-Plow explore the damage American business has done to the human spirit. The frontier myth has evolved into exploitative capitalism where competition becomes an obstacle for community and friendship. The characters in these plays try to establish and define their identities by their particular status within the business hierarchy. Unfortunately the nature of competition creates an environment in which the characters use each other's needs and vulnerabilities for their own gain. Permits allowing qualified citizens to legally carry a concealed weapon ("CCWs") in public have become increasingly popular. Nevada adopted more lenient CCW standards in October of 1995, and an unprecedented number of legally armed citizens in the public has resulted. Supporters of CCWs claim the right to self-defense with less crime resulting. Areas of investigation have included competition, governmental regulation, debt structure, cash flow, visitor volume, and so on; The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship of yet another variable of casino performance, the casino drop, to gaming stock performance. Fifty collegiate football players volunteered to participate in the study to examine the relationship between flexibility and injury rate of muscle strain, specifically the Hamstring and Hip Flexor muscle groups. Participants were evaluated for range of motion and monitored for non-contact hamstring strains occurring throughout the competitive seaSon Participants with any muscle strain within the past year were excluded from this study. Measurement of the hamstrings was done with a passive knee extension test; hip flexors were measured with prone hip extension test. Sixteen hamstring strains occurred within the fifty participants.
