This study examined the relationship between multiple out-of-home placements and children’s psychosocial functioning. Psychosocial functioning was measured by the number of mental health services recommended to the child by a licensed mental health professional and the number of negative behaviors exhibited by the child as recorded in the caseworkers’ narratives or mental health professional’s report. Independent variables included total number of placements experienced per child and average placement duration. Data were extracted from the administrative database and case files of the State of Nebraska Foster Care Review Board Tracking System (N=443). Previous research has shown that if an attorney reveals evidence to his or her case before the opposing attorney reveals the evidence, it will result in more favorable verdicts for his or her client. This study tested the most effective way for attorneys to reveal damaging evidence about their clients in opening statements by varying the amount of explanation the plaintiff's attorney gave of the damaging evidence. In addition, this study tested whether the participants' Need for Cognition would affect which type of opening statement was more persuasive. Second and fourth graders NCE reading, math, and language arts scores from the CAT were analyzed using a multiple regressoin and 3-way ANOVA to determine the effects of a child's entrance age on achievement and whether the interaction effect was significant. The study also controlled for SES by using the children's lunch payment status.

This study evaluated the effectiveness of a disabilities awareness program, the Kids on the Block, in increasing students' knowledge of and attitudes toward individuals with disabilities. Kids on the Block is a program used around the world to educate children about disabilities, and to teach them to appreciate and accept differences in others. The Kids on the Block troop is composed of nearly life-size puppets, with and without disabilities, who look and act like real children. Accommodations utilized by SAT teams have been explored in order to determine the success of the problem-solving, pre-referral intervention process as an alternative to special education referrals and placement. The results of the current study reflect insignificant results in the decline of special education referrals. In addition, chi square results looking at the use of specific accommodations as well as interventions that match the reason for referral was not significant. A decline in behavior referrals, slightly lower or consistent academic referrals, and consistent combination academic/behavior referrals was also not supported.
