Determinants Of Wage Satisfaction, Clare Gertsch Aug 1986

Determinants Of Wage Satisfaction, Clare Gertsch

Student Work

The role of sensitivity to social comparison information was investigated with regard to perceptions of equity and subsequent satisfaction with pay. Subjects were 64 undergraduate students. A 2 x 2 x 2 factorial design was employed. The three factors were (a) Equity, (b) Adequacy of pay, and (c) Sensitivity to social comparison information. Predicted main effects of equity and adequacy of pay on wage satisfaction were found. A predicted interaction of Equity x Sensitivity to Social Comparison Information was not found. Interpretation of the failure of this prediction focused on the personality scale employed.

The Effect Of Reduced Assessor Inference On The Demonstration Of Convergent And Discriminant Validity In Assessment Center Ratings, Kevin G. Louiselle Aug 1986

The Effect Of Reduced Assessor Inference On The Demonstration Of Convergent And Discriminant Validity In Assessment Center Ratings, Kevin G. Louiselle

Student Work

Consequently, the purpose of the present study was two—fold. First, confirmatory factor analysis was applied to assessor’s post-exercise dimensional ratings in an attempt to obtain a more accurate estimate of the dimensionality underlying these ratings. Second, this study utilized a slight methodological innovation (a behavioral checklist) to ascertain what effect a reduction in the amount of inference required of assessors would have on the demonstration of convergent and discriminant validity in assessment center ratings.

Use Of The Analysis Of Variance Model For Investigating Disposition Decisions Of Judges And Probation Officers, William E. Reay Jul 1986

Use Of The Analysis Of Variance Model For Investigating Disposition Decisions Of Judges And Probation Officers, William E. Reay

Student Work

The Analysis of Variance model was used to investigate differential disposition decisions from least restrictive to most restrictive court placement based on juvenile and family characteristics. Eight Juvenile and County Court Judges in Experiment I and 20 State Juvenile Probation Officers in Experiment II judged six behavioral-emotional signs in various combinations of presence or absence. The results were consistent with previous findings that a linear model more than adequately accounts for the variability of the subjects responses. The high interjudge agreement correlations and test-retest reliability estimates strongly suggest that Judges and Probation Officers can render reliable and consistent judgments, and …

The Effect Of Backward Priming On Word Recognition In Single-Word And Sentence Contexts., Robert R. Peterson Jul 1986

The Effect Of Backward Priming On Word Recognition In Single-Word And Sentence Contexts., Robert R. Peterson

Student Work

Backward priming was investigated under conditions similar to those found in lexical ambiguity research. Subjects received prime-target word pairs which were associated either in a backward direction (BABY-STORK) or bidirectionally (BABY-CRY). The primes were auditorily presented, either in isolation or in a sentence, and subjects made lexical decision or naming responses to the targets, which followed the primes either immediately or after 200 msec. Forward priming was obtained in all conditions. Backward priming occurred with both response tasks, but only when. the prime was an isolated word. For naming only, backward priming decreased over time. The results suggest that the …

The Perceived Credibility Of Masculine, Feminine And Androgynous Women In Middle Management, Priscilla Carpenter Apr 1986

The Perceived Credibility Of Masculine, Feminine And Androgynous Women In Middle Management, Priscilla Carpenter

Student Work

Throughout the literatureon attributes and behaviors for effective female leadership, writers disagree as to which sex-role and sex-characteristics should be emphasized. If a woman behaves according to the stereotype, she is of little value to the organization. However, if the woman is "unfeminine," she is not accepted either. This is due to the in compatibility of a woman's task competence and sexuality (i .e., role conflict). The extent to which women who achieve success using stereotypical masculine behaviors, such as aggressiveness, are viewed more or less favorably than women who use stereotypical feminine behaviors, such as in tuitiveness and sensitivity …
