For several years there has been a difference of opinion as to the cause and the effects of, and the treatment for, alcoholism. These opinions have been equally expressed by professional workers and lay people in the field and have ranged through describing alcoholism as a disease, a moral lapse, and a crime. The majority of these claims have been expressed from limited observation and shallow understanding. Very little research has been done from a personality structure viewpoint.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of certain personal traits of a selected group of first-level supervisors to the repuations for leadership behavior and supervisory effectiveness which the first-level supervisors had established with their superiors. Only those traits measured by the How Supervise Test, the Gordon Personal Profile, and an adjective scale were investigated. The hypothesis tested by the study was stated as follows: The first-level supervisor's reputationfor leadership behavior and supervisory effectiveness with his superior will be related to one or more of the measured traits to a statistically significant degree.

Jazz is the kind of music played by jazz musicians. This rather circular description is similar in nature to most definitions concocted by critics and reviewers of jazz. Steeped in jazz lore, the critic or reviewer can frequently offer information as to who played what and when or where it was played. Utilizing this bit of esoteric knowledge, the critic or reviewer supplements generally inadequate definitions for the elusive attributes of jazz by constructing a point of view which in effect partitions jazz into categories of style.
