Worm Parasites Of The Brown Rat (Mus Norvegicus) In The Philippine Islands, With Special Reference To Those Forms That May Be Transmitted To Human Beings, Marcos A. Tubangui

Harold W. Manter Laboratory: Library Materials

Summary

Besides the role that they play as carriers and reservoirs of bubonic plague and other bacterial as well as spirochretal infections, rats often harbor parasitic worms, some of which are also a menace to human health. In view of this and because of the fact that the helminthic fauna of rats has never been studied extensively in the Philippine Islands, it seemed desirable to undertake a systematic examination of these animals for the purpose of finding out if they are infested with parasites that are transmissible to man.

The examination of nine hundred fifty rats (Mus norvegicus) …

Who's Who Among The Prairie Grasses, J. E. Weaver Oct 1931

Who's Who Among The Prairie Grasses, J. E. Weaver

Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications

For many years I have lived on the prairie, where I became familiar with the grasses. Each spring I have been delighted with their renewal of growth in watching the brown landscape of rolling hills become carpeted with green. Year after year, with the progress of the season, I have seen the changing aspects, which, with the coming of autumn, end in the wonderful coloration of the prairie grasses. But the prairie as a whole has seemed a somewhat elusive thing, difficult to visualize, not easy to describe, indefinite and extremely variable in its composition. This vagueness of understanding, I …

The Influence Of Number Of Daily Milkings On The Production Of Dairy Cows, R. F. Morgan, H. P. Davis Sep 1931

The Influence Of Number Of Daily Milkings On The Production Of Dairy Cows, R. F. Morgan, H. P. Davis

Historical Research Bulletins of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station

High-producing Holstein, Jersey, Ayrshire, and Guernsey cows of various ages milked three times daily produced from 39.69 to 52.26 per cent more fat and from 44.98 to 65.18 per cent more milk than cows milked twice daily. When high-producing cows of all breeds milked four times daily were compared with cows milked twice daily, the fat production for the several age classes varied from 110.19 to 127.53 per cent and the milk production from 149.08 to 160.31 per cent greater for those milked four times. Milking high-producing cows four times as compared with three times daily showed an increased fat …

The Effect Of Maturity And The Ethylene Chlorhydrin Seed Treatment On The Dormancy Of Triumph Potatoes, H. O. Werner Aug 1931

The Effect Of Maturity And The Ethylene Chlorhydrin Seed Treatment On The Dormancy Of Triumph Potatoes, H. O. Werner

Historical Research Bulletins of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station

Western Nebraska dry-land Triumph potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) vary in maturity at the time of harvest, from some that are very immature to others with vines which are entirely ripe. Variations in maturity may be due to such factors as early frost, drouth, destruction of vines by hail or early blight, time of planting, and strain type (whether early or late maturing). The question of seed maturity and its influence upon duration of the dormant period is of considerable commercial importance, since these potatoes are annually being planted in south Texas as early as December 26 and in southern …

Studies Of Rickets In Swine, William J. Loeffel, Ray R. Thalman, F. C. Olson, F. A. Olson

Historical Research Bulletins of the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station

During the years 1925 to 1929 inclusive, the Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station carried on a series of four experiments to study the importance of the antirachitic factors in the nutrition of swine. Vitamin D as obtained from cod-liver oil and the radiant-energy factor of sunlight were the sources of the antirachitic factors that received primary consideration. Emphasis was placed upon the study of the symptoms and lesions produced in pigs fed a rickets-producing ration.

The Common Intestinal Roundworm Of Swine, H. M. Martin Jul 1931

The Common Intestinal Roundworm Of Swine, H. M. Martin

Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station: Historical Circulars

The large intestinal roundworm of pigs is a very common parasite, and is probably present in every hog raising district of Nebraska. Until the last few years the true nature of this parasite was unknown. Little did we realize the actual harm done by this worm; but through the scientific investigations of Stewart, Ransom, and others we now know that this parasite causes heavier losses to the breeder and feeder of swine than any other now common in Nebraska.

Jesse James- Fbi File Part One

United States Department of Justice: Publications and Materials

Letters to J. Edgar Hoover about the identification of Jesse James

Please refer to the letter I have prepared addressed to X concerning the claims of an individual now residing in that city, to the effect that he is the original JESSE JAMES.

Of course, Jesse James fingerprints never were taken. It follows that any identification would have to be made upon the basis of physical characteristics and photographs. The photograph of the younger person transmitted by X no doubt is a wood cut of the original Jesse James. After examining this photo, or cut, it is the opinion of …

Utilization Of Proteins By The Growing Chick, F. E. Mussehl, C. W. Ackerson

Cottonseed meal proved to have a greater growth-promoting value than did linseed oil meal. 4. The supplementing values of protein concentrates, one to another, is not quite as evident as one would expect if the …

The American Mastodon With Mandibular Tusks, Erwin H. Barbour Mar 1931

The American Mastodon With Mandibular Tusks, Erwin H. Barbour

Bulletin of the University of Nebraska State Museum

Mastodons and mammoths, represented by their relics, are so frequently exposed by shovel, plow, road grader, dredge, and rains, that they have become household words. They are plainly the commonest and best-known vertebrate fossils. They were fortuitously entombed, and are now accidently found. Their relics, though numerous, never represent the grand total that lived. Indeed, it was a rare individual that fell where circumstances favored rapid interment and consequent preservation; the grand majority fell in the open where their bones suffered rapid and complete decay. The American mastodon occupies a position between the long-jawed, long-skulled, four-tusked ancestor called Palaeomastodon, and …
