The causative role of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) pathway mutations in uveal melanoma (UM) has been well-established. Nearly all UMs bear an activating mutation in a GPCR pathway mediated by G proteins of the G family, driving tumor initiation and possibly metastatic progression. Thus, targeting this pathway holds therapeutic promise for managing UM. However, direct targeting of oncogenic Gα mutants, present in ∼90% of UMs, is complicated by the belief that these mutants structurally resemble active Gα WT. This notion is solidly founded on previous studies characterizing Gα mutants in which a conserved catalytic glutamine (Gln-209 in Gα) is replaced …

The Tax Court’s 2017 holding in Estate of Powell v. Commissioner1 followed by its 2018 decision in Estate of Cahill v. Commissioner,2 signals a need to rethink how best to structure the family limited partnership and the terms of the partnership agreement. In a shift away from its historical approach to analyzing gross estate inclusion of family limited partnership assets, the Powell court endorses application of Section 2036(a)(2)3 to include the value of partnership assets in decedent’s gross estate, and in an unprecedented step employs Section 2043 to determine the value of family limited partnership assets includible in the gross …
Metal Contamination And Food Web Changes Alter Exposure To Upper Trophic Levels In Upper Blackfoot River Basin Streams, Montana, Jack E. Landers, Sean Sullivan, Lisa Eby, Andrew C. Wilcox, Heiko Langner

Reduced invertebrate abundance and diversity are common responses to metals contamination in mining-impacted streams. The resulting changes in community composition may have implications for metals accumulation and transfer through the food web. We investigated how changes in invertebrate community composition (abundance, species richness, and food web complexity) influence metals bioaccumulation and exposure risk to upper trophic levels along a contamination gradient in the upper Blackfoot River Basin, Montana. Invertebrate species richness exhibited the strongest decline with increasing sediment metals concentrations, driven by the loss of metals-sensitive taxa. These changes in invertebrate community composition resulted in a decline in the proportion …

This study was conducted by Blackfoot Pathways: Sculpture in the Wild and for the Montana Office of Tourism and Business Development to provide insight into the characteristics of attendees to the 2018 event. Paper surveys on site were completed by 397 attendees. Results show that 71% of respondents were residents of Montana and of those Montana residents, 96% were from outside of Lincoln. Out-of-town respondents spent an average of 3.05 nights away from home. Of those nights, an average of 2.08 of those nights were in the town of Lincoln. Restaurant and Bar purchases received the highest total dollars spent …
Identifying Ancient Maya Economic And Political Networks In The Belize Valley Through Ceramic Sourcing, John Douglas
Identifying Ancient Maya Economic And Political Networks In The Belize Valley Through Ceramic Sourcing, John Douglas
University Grant Program Reports
Ancient Classic Lowland Maya potters made vessels to serve various needs, which were sometimes exchanged or otherwise moved across the landscape. Potters also emulated types made elsewhere with local materials. The immediate objective of this study was to see if black slip “recipes”— the chemical composition—applied to the surface of ceramics could be used to identify production groups for a type of Terminal Classic pottery called Mount Maloney Black (MMB) from two different ruins. Through chemical analysis, this study sought to discover if the same people with the same materials were making these vessels, or if there were from different …

In recent years, nonresident visitor spending on outfitters and guides has surpassed that of spending on retail goods, making it the fourth highest spending category behind only fuel, lodging, and dining out. This rise comes despite only five to six percent of the visiting population taking part in these activities. This observation reiterates findings from the 2007 Montana Outfitter and Guide study characterizing the outfitting industry as high value, low impact.
Though a small percent of visiting groups take part in some type of guided or outfitted experience, those who do stay longer and spend more per day. In 2017, …

Resistive Mhd Evolution Of Shaped Rfp Equilibria, Joe Newman, Andrew S. Ware, Nimrod Team, University Of Montana, Missoula
UM Plasma Group Publications
Computational modeling of the resistive MHD evolution of reverse-field-pinch (RFP) plasmas with boundary shaping is undertaken. The VMEC code obtains equilibria that are similar to quasi-single helicity (QSH) states in an RFP with a helical axis and a symmetric boundary [J.D. Hanson, et al., Nuclear Fusion 53, 083016 (2013)]. Previous work has shown that axisymmetric boundary shaping affects whether an axisymmetric or QSH equilibrium is obtained in VMEC and it affects the extent of the swing of the helical axis in the QSH state. In this work, these equilibria are used as initial conditions for the NIMROD code [C.R. …

We report the emissions of glyoxal and methylglyoxal from the open burning of biomass during the NOAA-led 2016 FIREX intensive at the Fire Sciences Laboratory in Missoula, MT. Both compounds were measured using cavity-enhanced spectroscopy, which is both more sensitive and more selective than methods previously used to determine emissions of these two compounds. A total of 75 burns were conducted, using 33 different fuels in 8 different categories, providing a far more comprehensive dataset for emissions than was previously available. Measurements of methylglyoxal using our instrument suffer from spectral interferences from several other species, and the values reported here …
