A Gis-Based Analysis Of Chickasaw Settlement In Northeast Mississippi: 1650-1840, Wendy Cegiellski

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

During the early colonial period in the Southeast, the Chickasaw were remarkably successful in their negotiations with Europeans. By the mid-eighteenth-century, their position had been weakened. These changes are reflected in the expansion and contraction of Chickasaw settlement. This analysis uses new temporal and locational data from a large collection of Chickasaw artifacts to create a more precise model of Chickasaw settlement changes over time employing Geographic Information Systems software (ArcGIS 9.3). This analysis also elucidates the complex links between Chickasaw movements and historical factors including warfare and economic change. Both archaeological and historical documentation are used to gain a …

Testing The Social Processing Advantage In Recognition And Reconstruction Tasks, Stephan Adair Jul 2010

Testing The Social Processing Advantage In Recognition And Reconstruction Tasks, Stephan Adair

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A recent study found that participants were more likely to recall words that were processed socially than when processed in other ways (Reysen & Adair, 2008). Using a similar methodology, the goal was to extend those observations. Specifically, two experiments examined the effect of social processing on participants’ ability to both recognize and reconstruct the order of list items. Participants were asked to remember a list of words with help either from a computer or, purportedly, another participant. It was hypothesized participants would be more likely to recognize list items and better at reconstructing the order of list items, if …

Detection Of Response Bias And Noncredible Performance In Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, John Christopher Young Apr 2010

Detection Of Response Bias And Noncredible Performance In Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, John Christopher Young

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The development and utilization of indices to detect noncredible assessment performance is an area of increasing importance as recent prevalence estimates of malingering regularly exceed 30% in specific samples (Larrabee, 2007). Assessment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in adults presents clinicians with a variety of challenges given changes in the symptoms across ages and limitations in the diagnostic criteria and clinical measures. In an effort to address clinical symptoms, adults diagnosed with ADHD are frequently prescribed stimulant medication or receive a variety of accommodations at work or school. These benefits serve as potent incentives for individuals to feign ADHD. The purpose …

Tiered Market Structures: An Empirical Examination Of Nasdaq, Kevin D. Broom Jan 2010

Tiered Market Structures: An Empirical Examination Of Nasdaq, Kevin D. Broom

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation consists of two essays examining tiered market structures. We focus on the June 2006 restructuring of the NASDAQ Stock Exchange where the listing environment changed from two to three tiers, creating a top tier with the highest listing standards for any exchange in the world. The first essay examines market quality. Theoretical motivation indicates that different listing and disclosure requirements could result in different levels of information production across tiers, and thus different market quality characteristics. While we do find cross-sectional evidence of market quality differences, we do not find evidence of market quality changes when firms change …
