The purpose of this quasi-experimental study was to examine the comparative change in reported self-efficacy between an experimental group using an interactive, online instructional module and a control group using a traditional handbook. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to understand the journey that leaders, specifically supervisors, experience in leadership development programs within an organization that specializes in distribution within the southeastern United States. The participants in this study were interviewed and observed in their working environment; during the interviews and observations, the researcher attempted to explore how the participants obtained and applied leadership skills learned within the training and development program that was provided by the organization. Authentic learning is rooted in the idea that learning is situated within a real world context. The learning is then assessed through the performance of a skill or demonstration of applied knowledge (authentic assessment). As police departments are usually unable to hire in inidividuals with the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities required for successful performance of the policing job, they are tasked with delivering post-academy training to newly hired officers to ensure that they have understanding of the department's policies and procedures. The current study describes the process of implementing portions of the Reno Model of police training (specifically, a daily journal and Problem Based Learning Exercises) into the training program at the Collierville Police Department which follows the San Jose Model of police training.
