“There Is Never A Break”: The Hidden Curriculum Of Professionalization For Engineering Faculty, Idalis Villanueva, Taya Carothers, Marialuisa Di Stefano, Md. Tarique Hasan Khan

The purpose of this exploratory special issue study was to understand the hidden curriculum (HC), or the unwritten, unofficial, or unintended lessons, around the professionalization of engineering faculty across institutions of higher education. Additionally, how engineering faculty connected the role of HC awareness, emotions, self-efficacy, and self-advocacy concepts was studied. A mixed-method survey was disseminated to 55 engineering faculties across 54 institutions of higher education in the United States. Quantitative questions, which centered around the influences that gender, race, faculty rank, and institutional type played in participants’ responses was analyzed using a combination of decision tree analysis with chi-square and …

This role-play involves data mismanagement in a research lab. The graduate students suspects that the post-doc fabricated experimental results, which is a form of research misconduct. This scenario highlights the mismatch of expectations that can arise in a mentoring relationship between a graduate student and a research adviser. The adviser wants a solely professional relationship, but the student seeks a more personal relationship. Their inconsistent desires lead to inconsistent expectations about how long they should meet and what they should discuss, and subsequently to misunderstandings about the preliminary results.

A stochastic method is developed, implemented and investigated here for solving Laplace, Poisson's, and standard parabolic wave equations. This method is based on the properties of random walk, diffusion process, Ito formula, Dynkin formula and Monte Carlo simulations. The developed method is a local method i:e: it gives the value of the solution directly at an arbitrary point rather than extracting its value from complete field solution and thus is inherently parallel. Field computation by this method is demonstrated for electrostatic and electrodynamic propagation problems by considering simple examples and numerical results are presented to validate this method. Once we go beyond 45nm regime process variations also have emerged as a significant design concern.Embedded memories uses sense amplifier for fast sensing and typically, sense amplifiers uses pair of matched transistors in a positive feedback environment. Combined Heat and Power (CHP) is the production of electricity and the simultaneous utilization of the heat produced by the generator prime mover. The energy efficiency advantages of CHP are undisputed, and yet, the continuously changing economic conditions make the implementation of such projects financially not viable if no incentives are available.

This thesis attempts to demonstrate the economic benefits associated with DG-CHP.
