The Effect Of Process Parameters On Laser-Deposited Ti-6a1-4v., Troy Austin Davis 1981- May 2004

The Effect Of Process Parameters On Laser-Deposited Ti-6a1-4v., Troy Austin Davis 1981-

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this research is to understand how the process parameters surrounding the Direct Metal Deposition (DMD) process affect the properties of the deposition. The powder used in this research is pre-alloyed titanium powder (Ti-6Al-4V), containing 6% wt. aluminum and 4% wt. vanadium. A few process parameters involved with the DMD include the laser power, traverse speed, powder flow rate, and gas flow rates. Due to the detrimental effect of oxygen on titanium, oxygen content is one of the main deposition properties of significance involved with this research. In addition to the oxygen content, the powder efficiency, build rate, …

The Development Of An Innovative Adder Design Evaluated Using Programmable Logic., James A. Haas 1971- May 2004

The Development Of An Innovative Adder Design Evaluated Using Programmable Logic., James A. Haas 1971-

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This research evaluates an innovative binary adder design and compares it against five standard adder designs. It begins with an algorithmic description of the five standard designs followed by the innovative design. It uses two metrics, speed and size, to establish a fair comparison among the designs and draw conclusions about the performance and usability of the innovative design. The metrics are applied to theory, simulation, and implementation of the adder designs. The latter part of the research draws conclusions from the analysis of these metrics to establish a fair comparison between the innovative and existing designs. The five standard …

Development Of Ozone Forecast Models For Selected Kentucky Metropolitan Areas., Yiqiu Lin 1971- May 2004

Development Of Ozone Forecast Models For Selected Kentucky Metropolitan Areas., Yiqiu Lin 1971-

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Ground-level ozone forecast models were developed for the following middle and small metropolitan areas in Kentucky: Ashland, Bowling Green, Owensboro, and Paducah. These models were nonlinear regression models, based on models previously developed for Louisville and Lexington. For each of the four cities, the mean absolute errors (MAE) for the model estimates, based on the 1998-2002 model-fitted data sets, were less than 7.7 ppb; the MAE/O3 were less than 12.7%. The models could explain at least 66% of the variance of the daily peak ozone. On average, the errors of the model were within +/- 15.0 ppb on 88% of …

Design, Fabrication And Testing Of P-Channel Enhancement Mode Transistors., Usha R. Gowrishetty 1979- May 2004

Design, Fabrication And Testing Of P-Channel Enhancement Mode Transistors., Usha R. Gowrishetty 1979-

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A process for fabricating PMOS transistors and test devices has been developed for educational purposes as part of a microfabrication undergraduate/graduate laboratory course at the University of Louisville. This is to help students from multiple disciplines to understand and perform basic microfabrication processes. Several designs of PMOS devices were fabricated using standard processes such as oxidation, photolithography, diffusion, and sputtering. Process characterization involved testing PMOS transistors, Cross Bridge Kelvin Structures, and Van der Pauw structures. Characterization of PMOS transistors was performed using I-V curves for varying oxide thicknesses (tox) grown using dry oxidation, wet oxidation and RTP (rapid thermal processing). …

Thermal Analysis Of Microhotplates Using Computer Aided Design And Simulation Software., Hiren Vrajlal Trada 1977- May 2004

Thermal Analysis Of Microhotplates Using Computer Aided Design And Simulation Software., Hiren Vrajlal Trada 1977-

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis is based on work done as part of a bigger project supported by Naval Research Laboratories (NRL). A MOSIS fabricated micro hotplate is simulated using the CAD software CoventorWare. There are three different sized hotplates in one die; viz. small, medium and large. The files designed in L-EDIT, are imported into CoventorWare which is used to build a 3-D model and perform various simulations on the models. A voltage sweep is applied to the hotplate terminals for different values of convection coefficients and the resulting temperature data is gathered. This data is compared with experimental data to obtain …

Software Integrity Management System., Joseph H. Brown 1980- May 2004

Software Integrity Management System., Joseph H. Brown 1980-

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this thesis is to design, implement, and evaluate a software package that is mutli-platform and will provide software integrity management (SIM). The software package is implemented in Java and will perform two hashing algorithms, Message Digest version 5 (MD5) and Secure Hashing Algorithm 1 (SHA-1), in order to verify the integrity of executable files. These records of executables and their hash value will be stored in flat database files. The database files will be stored off site on multiple servers. Each server will hold a file corresponding to the hash algorithm that was used. By storing the …
