Mechanical Engineering Faculty Patents
A system for detecting defects in paint coatings includes a temperature manipulation apparatus configured to change the temperature of a surface and a coating applied to the surface. The system may further include an infrared sensor for measuring the change in temperature of the surface and coating and a processor to compare the measured change in temperature of the surface and coating to an expected change of temperature in order to determine anomalies in the coatings.

System And Method For Sensing A Characteristic Of A Fluid And Related Apparatus, Frederick Payne
Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering Faculty Patents
An apparatus for intended use in measuring, sensing, or detecting a characteristic of a fluid, such as a liquid food product, is disclosed. The apparatus includes a body having a pocket for positioning adjacent to the opening in a pipe or like structure for receiving a portion of a fluid therein. In one possible use, a first optical medium, such as an optical fiber, transmits light from a source toward a portion of the fluid flow entering the pocket. Light received by one or more optical mediums positioned in backscatter, sidescatter, or transmission configurations relative to the first optical medium …

Long Acting, Reversible Veterinary Sedative And Analgesic And Method Of Use, Thomas Tobin
Veterinary Science Faculty Patents
A veterinary composition comprising a guanidine derivative, e.g., guanabenz or guanabenz acetate is provided which produces a rapid acting and long lasting sedative and analgesic effect in a subject animal that is selectively reversible. The use of guanabenz in the horse provides for a safe, effective, long lasting and rapidly reversible sedative and analgesic which can be used on the standing animal. Methods of use of the compositions of the invention are also provided.

Methods And Compositions For Expressing Multiple Genes In Plants By Alternate Splicing Of A Polycistronic Message, Indu Bhushan Maiti, Somnath Bhattacharyya
Kentucky Tobacco Research and Development Center Faculty Patents
The present invention provides a method and composition for expression of multiple genes from a polycistronic message in transgenic plants using genetic elements derived from the peanut chlorotic streak caulimovirus promoter-leader sequence and antisense sequence of PC1SV ORF VII. Also provided are compositions and methods for intron-mediated enhanced and regulated expression of genes in transgenic plants.
Packet-Switching Network With Symmetrical Topology And Method Of Routing Packets, Nader F. Mir
Packet-Switching Network With Symmetrical Topology And Method Of Routing Packets, Nader F. Mir
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Patents
A mesh network for routing a plurality of data segments therethrough, each of the data segments containing address information. The network includes: a first, second, and third switch element each having a respective external input for routing data segments into the network and a respective external output for routing data segments out of the network; a bi-directional coupling between each of the switch elements; and a first controller for interrogating the address information of each of the data segments inbound into the first switch element. The exit pathway for any inbound data segment received by a switch element is selected …
