The role of Melanocortin 2 Receptor (MC2R) in adrenal/interrenal glucocorticoid secretion has been well documented in many organisms. Studies in mammals have shown that in the adrenal gland two melanocortin receptors and two melanocortin receptor accessory proteins are expressed: MC2R, MC5R, MRAP, and MRAP2. The MRAPs have an opposite effect on the cell surface expression of MC2R and MC5R. In mammals, MRAP aids MC2R but inhibits MC5R cell surface expression. Cavitation is a phenomenon that occurs when the local pressure falls down below the critical pressure. Previous work from the Randolph lab demonstrated that protein aggregates can form when a vial of therapeutic solution is dropped onto a hard surface. The process by which this occurs is most likely shock induced cavitation. During this process, hot spots can be created with temperatures and pressures reaching thousands of Kelvin and hundreds of atmospheres, respectively, leading to degradation of protein therapeutics. This dissertation proposes an approach for testing of safety-critical systems. It is based on a behavioral and a fault model. The two models are analyzed for compatibility and necessary changes are identified to make them compatible. Then transformation rules are used to transform the fault model into the same model type as the behavioral model. Integration rules define how to combine them. While DNA profiling makes it possible to individualize biological stains, the identification of the stain itself can present forensic serologists with a significant challenge. Current antibody- and enzyme activity-based assays used by forensic practitioners for biological stain identification yield only presumptive results. Positive results with non-target body fluids or cross-reactivity with non-human sources has also been well documented. Childhood overweight and obesity is a complex disease that requires early identification and intervention. Little research has investigated the influence of maternal perception of child body weight on reported child physical activity behaviors and importance to change these behaviors. Using parent survey and child body mass index (BMI) data, the current study evaluated the difference between maternal perception of child weight status and reported physical activity and sedentary behavior levels amongst preschool-aged children. Reported child physical activity and sedentary behavior levels were not significantly different depending on maternal misperception. Five fictional characters have emerged on the U.S. premium-pay-cable channels that blur the traditional male-or-female gender divide. The basics of queer theory (sex, gender, orientation, and transgender) and critical/cultural studies (encoding, decoding, and reading a text) are explained as a basis for the analysis of the characters, which seeks to answer the research question: does the premium-pay-cable television format offer truly empathetic non-binary transgender characters that challenge the dominant American ideologies about gender identity and expression? This thesis analyzes the rhetoric of Muhammad Yunus as an articulation of a new governing logic, one that reconstitutes the concept of poverty and binds the poor to the apparatus of global capitalism through a new logic of micro-enterprise. Working within a Foucauldian critical framework informed by the rhetorical scholarship of Ronald W. This was an exploratory study of ombuds officers in the United States that utilized direct interviews to gather data from seven ombuds officers in large organizations. A qualitative approach compared roles of these ombuds officers to roles of other ombuds officers working in the United States. Roles examined included: investigatory, advocacy, assisting, and regulatory roles. The results demonstrated that a majority of ombuds officers worked in an assisting role. Mitochondrial dysfunction resulting from oxidative or nitrosative stress often acts as an initiating stimulus for intrinsic apoptosis or necrosis. These events frequently occur in conjunction with imbalances in the mitochondrial fission and fusion equilibrium, although the cause and effect relationships remain elusive. Previous research with Latinos has identified these factors as potentially being correlated with depression and with quality of life. This study explored how young adult initiators of romantic relationship dissolution experience grief and support through the breakup process. Participants were six female and three male undergraduate students at The University of Idaho, all of whom had initiated a breakup within the past six months. Initiators responded to a variety of questions about their experiences in a semi-structured interview. Based on a qualitative analysis of these interviews, a variety of themes emerged highlighting the often minimized experience of initiating a romantic relationship breakup in early adulthood. Because native paramagnetic species exist at low concentrations in living systems, exogenous paramagnetic species are needed for in vivo EPR. Selection of the appropriate EPR probe allows the experimenter to obtain information about the environment of the imaged probe and its spatial distribution.
