Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Influenza virus H9 was standardized for hemagglutination assay using different factors such as red blood cell (RBC) types, concentrations, diluent types, and storage times. Avian influenza virus H9 was grown in embryonated chicken eggs and confirmed by spot agglutination. A significant (P < 0.05) difference with the highest mean titer (9.00 ± 0.00) was observed using RBCs from different species. Nonsignificant differences (P > 0.05) were found between human blood type O, chicken, and dog RBCs, as well as among rabbit, pigeon, sheep, and parrot. The highest titer (9.00 ± 0.00) with a nonsignificant difference was found using virus stored at 4 °C and -20 °C while 37 °C showed the lowest significant mean hemagglutinin (HA) titer (11.08 ± 188.21). Nonsignificant differences …

Effect Of Sodium Bicarbonate Supplementation And 2 Different Ambient Temperatures On Growth Performance And Carcass Characteristics Of Lambs Fed Concentrate Diets, Demba Boi Jallow, Liang Chou Hsia Jan 2014

Effect Of Sodium Bicarbonate Supplementation And 2 Different Ambient Temperatures On Growth Performance And Carcass Characteristics Of Lambs Fed Concentrate Diets, Demba Boi Jallow, Liang Chou Hsia

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Twenty male Barbados lambs (3 months old) were used to evaluate the effects of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO_3) supplementation on growth performance and carcass characteristics of lambs fed concentrate diets in controlled-environment chambers set at 20 °C and 30 °C. In the 35-week-long growth trial, the animals were divided into 4 groups (n = 5) and fed 2 dietary treatments: a basal diet (35:65 roughage and concentrate) or a basal diet supplemented with 4% NaHCO_3. Twelve lambs randomly selected from this trial were arranged in a 2 × 2 factorial design for a 10-day-long slaughter and carcass evaluation experiment. Lambs in …

Sensible And Latent Heat Productions From Broilers In Laboratory Conditions, Levent Genç, Kenneth M. Portier Jan 2005

Sensible And Latent Heat Productions From Broilers In Laboratory Conditions, Levent Genç, Kenneth M. Portier

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Heat production from chickens and other resources inside the broiler house is a major problem for the broiler industry. Temperature and relative humidity (RH) as well as airflow and broiler physiology directly affect heat production in broiler houses. This study was carried out under laboratory conditions to determine heat production for male broilers. In the laboratory experiment, 108 broilers were used to determine the influence of different temperature-humidity combinations on the physiological response of 2.0 to 2.3 kg broilers during the 40 min test. In the laboratory experiment, three dry bulb (DB) temperatures (25 °C, 30 °C, and 35 °C) …

The Development Of European Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus Labrax L., 1758) Eggs In Relation To Temperature, Şahi̇n Saka, Kürşat Firat, H. Okan Kamaci Jan 2001

The Development Of European Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus Labrax L., 1758) Eggs In Relation To Temperature, Şahi̇n Saka, Kürşat Firat, H. Okan Kamaci

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

In this study, the development of European Sea Bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L., 1758) eggs was investigated at different temperatures. The experiments were carried out at 15ºC and 17ºC. The average diameters of the eggs were determined tobe approximately 1.162±0.004 mm. The embryonic development of the eggs was observed every hour and then photographed. The hatching rates were found to be 84.8-89.4% at 15ºC and 82.3-86.3% at 17ºC, respectively. Hatching of the larvae took 87 hours at 15ºC and 69 hours at 17ºC.

Investigation Of The Survival Of L. Monocytogenes 4b Slcc 4013 Strain In Pastrami, Ali̇ Arslan, Kadi̇r Servi̇, Zafer Gönülalan, Fi̇li̇z Kök, Ahmet H. Di̇nçoğlu, Haki̇ Kara, İsmet Doğan

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

This study was conducted to determine the lifespan of the pathogen L. monocytogenes 4B SLCC 4013 strain at different temperatures in pastrami produced in laboratory conditions. For the production of the pastrami, beef taken from the leg section (m. gluteobiceps femoris, m. gluteus spurficialis, m. gluteus medius et profundus) was used, containing 2.51 x 106 colony forming units (cfu/g) of listeria. The meat was divided into two groups. One group was salted with normal salt and the other group with salt containing 150 ppm NaNO_3. The pastrami was vacuum packed after production. Some of the pastrami from each group was …
