This covers the period prior to 2008. At its outset, this study explores the general context of the Roma in Cyprus and their identity as Cypriot citizens, their legal classification, cultural identity and population concentration. It then examines the legal framework within which the Roma of Cyprus are educated by describing the provisions regarding access to education, as well as recent legislation transposing the anti-discrimination acquis.
