The present volume is a collection of some papers published by the author during the period 1993 – 2008. They are reproduced here in facsimile edition arranged under the headings: The Pioneers, Metallurgy, and Selected Topics. In the last section a paper on the position of aluminum in the Periodic Table is included another on gallium since it is mainly produced as a by-product of the aluminum industry, and the history of aluminum as illustrated on postage stamps. The Historical Metallurgy Committee was founded in 1978 to provide a forum for the Metallurgical Society members interested in the history of metallurgy and to promote the recording of Canadian achievement. One of the first initiatives of the Committee was to sponsor a section in the CIM Bulletin entitled Historical Metallurgy Notes. In this section original research on the history of Canadian metallurgical installation, anniversaries of certain metallurgical events, history of chemistry and metallurgy in the great empires, biographies and obituaries of distinguished metallurgists and mining engineers, and book reviews, have been published.
