This project is divided into three sections. Part 1 1s a synthesis of my research on Narragansett Indian subsistence practices before, during and after contact with Europeans. This synthesis is in the form of a model for studying Late Woodland-Contact culture change based on archaeological evidence that a shift in settlement pattern and subsistence practices may have occurred between the Late Woodland and Contact periods.
