Transmigration is the spiritual concept said to be the migration of a soul into a new body. The natural and found items act as the soul elements of my work, which are transformed into new existences and made precious. As a maker, I view my practice spiritually, in terms of collection of material from the natural world and through the process of creating. Academically, I’m interested in the history of adornment, anthropology, alchemy, and science related to the field of jewelry and metalsmithing. These topics, along with formal interest, result in works that I hope are rich, earthy, and honest.

Fresh Out explores the infinite and indefinable world of femininity. Portraits, still lifes, and installation materials work together to investigate gender performance, power structures, and pleasure paradoxes. Within staged scenes of domestic arrangements and female bodies, a synchronicity between disturbance and enchantment is created. I define pleasure paradoxes in accordance to this synchronicity; an interest that both repulses, embarrasses, or disturbs you, while also excites and intrigues. When I think of these guilty pleasures, I immediately think of gender. I excavate material from VHS cassettes discussing the human body, the human nervous system, nostalgia, and memory. My work examines the process of coping and caregiving for a parent’s illness from a young age to adulthood. By quilting from VHS magnetic tape, neon lights, installations, and videos; I recall a time of my life when my mother was not suffering from multiple sclerosis, and was running a video store in the early 1990s.
