Experimental And Numerical Study Of Feeding Channel In Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell, Abul Bashar Mahmud Hasan Jan 2005

Experimental And Numerical Study Of Feeding Channel In Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell, Abul Bashar Mahmud Hasan

LSU Master's Theses

The performance of a Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) using different feeding configurations has been studied, with a focus on the water flooding due to electrochemical reaction. Feeding channel or Bipolar plate in Proton Exchange Fuel Cell is a dominating part. As feeding channel keeps direct contact with the gas diffusion layer, it helps efficiently supplying fuel and air into the gas diffusion layer for efficient production of electricity. Experimental data have been taken at hydrogen flow rates of 20,40,60,80,100 sccm for various bipolar plate arrangements. Three bipolar plates, namely serpentine, straight channel and interdigitated designs, were arranged in …

Simulation Study For Wireless Sensor Networks And Load Sharing Routing Protocol To Increase Network Life And Connectivity, Ankur Suri Jan 2005

Simulation Study For Wireless Sensor Networks And Load Sharing Routing Protocol To Increase Network Life And Connectivity, Ankur Suri

LSU Master's Theses

LSU SensorSimulator is a framework for simulating wireless sensor networks. It is a customizable and extendible simulator, which allows testing and analyzing software for wireless sensor networks. The users can subclass the framework classes and customize the behavior of various network layers. This subclassing gives a way to the developers an opportunity to analyze and investigate, phenomenological, networking, robustness and scaling issues, to explore arbitrary algorithms for distributed sensors, independent of hardware constraint. The results are compared against the simulation results for ns-2 for routing protocols Directed Diffusion and GEAR. Through the comparison of results for scalability, performance and memory …

Economic Evaluation Of Potential Changes In Farm Program Price Support For Typical Louisiana Rice And Cotton Farming Operations, Manuel E. Aldana Jan 2005

Economic Evaluation Of Potential Changes In Farm Program Price Support For Typical Louisiana Rice And Cotton Farming Operations, Manuel E. Aldana

LSU Master's Theses

Increased government deficit has led the congress to reduce federal spending. Proposed budget cuts are intended to decrease government spending in several areas, including agriculture. Reductions in farm program spending could cause significant adverse effects on the financial situation of many farms, particularly to rice and cotton enterprises, due to their high reliance on farm program payments as a source of income. Representative rice and cotton operations of one, two, three, and four entities as single crop enterprises were considered and developed for use in this study. Farm enterprise sizes were determined by estimating the acreage level at which a …

Sensorsimulator: Simulation Framework For Sensor Networks, Cariappa D. Mallanda Jan 2005

Sensorsimulator: Simulation Framework For Sensor Networks, Cariappa D. Mallanda

LSU Master's Theses

Wireless sensor networks have the potential to become significant subsystems of engineering applications. Before relegating important and safety-critical tasks to such subsystems, it is necessary to understand the dynamic behavior of these subsystems in simulation environments. There is an urgent need to develop a simulation platform that is useful to explore both the networking issues and the distributed computing aspects of wireless sensor networks. Current approaches to simulating wireless sensor networks largely focus on the networking issues. These approaches use well-known network simulation tools that are often difficult to extend to explore distributed computing issues. Discrete-event simulation is a trusted …

Simulation And Economic Evaluation Of Coal Gasification With Sets Reforming Process For Power Production, Zachary Hoffman Jan 2005

Simulation And Economic Evaluation Of Coal Gasification With Sets Reforming Process For Power Production, Zachary Hoffman

LSU Master's Theses

Increasing natural gas prices have raised interest in alternate energy resources. Popular belief in the connection between carbon dioxide emissions and global warming has motivated the search for a technique to isolate carbon dioxide from combustion stack gases. Coal gasification with SETS reforming has been proposed as a solution to both of these issues in that it provides an alternate energy source and 100% carbon dioxide sequestration. The purpose of this research is to simulate this process using AspenPlus to perform the rigorous material and energy balances. The results of this simulation are used to carry out a complete economic …

Optimal Operating Strategy For Wells With Downhole Water Sink Completions To Control Water Production And Improve Performance, Ozan Arslan Jan 2005

Optimal Operating Strategy For Wells With Downhole Water Sink Completions To Control Water Production And Improve Performance, Ozan Arslan

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

Downhole water sink (DWS) technology is an alternative to conventional limited-entry completions to control water production in wells with bottom water drive. DWS wells comprise two completions: the bottom completion produces water and keeps the top completion open to oil inflow. The system performance depends on careful manipulation of the top and bottom rates to maximize oil productivity and produce oil-free water from the bottom completion. Conventional nodal analysis cannot provide a solution for DWS wells because the critical rates for water coning change with water drainage rate. A reservoir simulator is used to model two-phase flow to the dual …
