Burnout and attrition among special education teachers has become a major problem in public schools today. Stress in the classroom, stemming mostly from inappropriate student behaviors, is one of the key sources of teacher burnout. Disciplinary styles and self-efficacy contribute to the risk of burnout. The authoritative disciplinary style is ideal in the classroom. Teachers work with students and negotiate with them, and the students develop a sense of responsibility in the classroom. Teachers who have a high sense of self-efficacy generally adopt the authoritative approach and have a lower degree of burnout. The results of this study indicate that …

The purpose of this research was to study the perceptions of teachers of students with emotional and behavioral disorders in the Virginia public schools on the topic of physical restraints in the classroom, and to determine training and policies regarding physical restraints that the schools are providing . These areas were studied through a survey of 104 EBD teachers from Virginia school districts. The questionnaire consisted of demographic information and ten likert scale statements reflecting perceptions of physical intervention. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. The purpose of this research study was two fold. First, the researcher wanted to determine from which conceptual model regarding classroom management techniques Virginia 's SED teachers predominantly function . Second, the use of physical restraint as a behavior management technique in the public schools was investigated. Both of these issues were addressed by 154 of Virginia's SED teachers in a questionnaire developed by the researcher. The questionnaire consisted of opened ended questions, likert scales and fifteen scenarios designed to determine the predominant conceptual model used by SED teachers.
