Twenty-three percent of the businesses participated in the study with 8 employer and 24 employee subjects. The purpose of the study was to determine the perceptions of people with disal:>ilities by their nondisabled coworkers and employers. The first part of the purpose was to address the employers' perceptions of people with disabilities and how experience and level of education can affect those perceptions.The second part addressed the amount of.experience the individual's had in working with people with disabilities and the types of disabilities presented in their workplace.

A survey questionnaire was sent to forty-nine full time faculty members in the fall of 1996. Thirty-nine {80%) faculty members at a small four year, predominantly liberal arts college in central Virginia, responded to the questionnaire. The questionnaire was concerned with providing instructional accommodations, assignment accommodations, examination accommodations, and academic policy accommodations for students who have learning disabilities. Data were analyzed using t-tests and a one way analysis of variance. The variables included were gender, professional position, interaction with students who have learning disabilities, total years teaching at the college level, and whether or not the faculty member has taken …

The purpose of this study was to determine the instructional strategies that promote academic success in inclusive settings at the elementary school ·level. This study also attempted to investigate the most effective instructional strategies perceived by regular education teachers and special education teachers. Seventy-eight subjects from the elementary school level, including thirty- nine (n=39) regular education teachers and thirty-nine (n=39) special education teachers, participated in this study. One of the purposes of this study was to examine types of classroom management methods used by regular education teachers and special education teachers. Another purpose of this study was to·investigate which management strategies were the most successful and unsuccessful in regular education and special education classrooms . The subjects of this study included 96 elementary school teachers (N=96) from four counties in the state of Virginia. The purpose of this study was to determine (a) the types of assessment formats that are being used in classrooms today,; (b) if a significant difference exists between general education and special education teachers' choices of assessment formats,; and, (c) if teachers' assessment training background correlated with the number or type of assessment formats chosen. One hundred thirty two middle school general and special education teachers from the state of Virginia were surveyed with a 22-item survey to determine how often each teacher used certain assessment formats in their classrooms.

This thesis analyzes how conservative opposition grew and the effects of the Great Depression on Harry Byrd’s political views. The New Deal did not end the Great Depression, but it did usher in a new era in American governmental philosophy. Harry Byrd opposed the growing activism of the federal government and the New Deal’s approach to combating the depression. He maintained that government should be limited and economical. Although other modified their economic and political philosophies during the New Deal, Byrd never disowned the conservative principles that he formed early in life. The effect of cognitive learning style on improving the organizational skills of students with learning disabilities was investigated using subjects of a ninth grade inclusion science class in a rural school division. The intervention consisted of identifying the learning styles of two subjects, and adapting instruction to reflect the modalities of the subjects. The results of a multiple baseline across subjects design showed an improvement in the subjects' organizational skills which was measurable in the subjects ' academic achievement. Future research implications were discussed and recommended.

The Effects Of Self-Monitoring Of Task Completion Time On Assignment Completion And Accuracy, Kathryn B. Wright

The purpose of this study was to determine if productivity and accuracy would increase if subjects recorded the amount of time it took to complete assignments. Two students with learning disabilities were taught to record the times assignments were started and finished and to calculate the difference. Data were collected on the time spent on assignments, the percentage of the assignment completed, and the percentage of the assignment completed correctly. The results showed that productivity and the amount of time spent on assignments improved slightly. The accuracy of the work, however, decreased. Implications for future research are discussed.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the sight word recognition of two students with learning disabilities from a private school in Virginia, after adaptations to their learning styles had been made. The experimental design used to assess the effects of learning style adaptations on sight word recognition was a multiple probe across word groups. A combination of the Dolch and Fry Sight Word Lists determined the unmastered sight words for both subjects. This study analyzed data collected from a small, rural school division to determine how the integration of students with SLD into general education classrooms was being implemented. Specifically, a survey was conducted to determine if appropriate accommodations were being made for these students and how student outcomes were being evaluated. Respondents included all personnel who were involved in the evaluation and eligibility processes for students with SLD (N=140). Results indicated that, although some active efforts are occurring to integrate students with SLD into general education classrooms, no formal plan for implementation exists in the school division surveyed. One hundred and five middle school general education teachers of English, math, social studies, and science in Virginia were surveyed to determine if their reported levels of teaching efficacy and personal teaching efficacy were related to their use of accommodations for mainstreamed students with learning disabilities. A 32-item self-efficacy scale was used to assess subjects' levels of teaching efficacy and personal teaching efficacy. A 41-item survey was constructed to assess the extent to which subjects used accommodations for students with learning disabilities. One hundred and fifteen middle and high school students with learning disabilities selected from the Learning Disabilities Association of Virginia were surveyed on their perceptions on homework. An adapted questionnaire was used to collect data for this study with an 18.22% return rate.
Descriptive statistics and Chi square were used to analyze data for this study. Results obtained from the Chi square analysis show that middle school students daydreamed or played with objects and needed reminders to start homework more often than high school students. This study investigated the perceptions of 60 regular education teachers (30 elementary school and 30 high school) about having a student with emotional/behavioral disorders in their classroom. The teachers responded to 19 questions concerning the student's academic and behavioral performance using a 4-point Likert scale. The results of the study were analyzed by calculating a mean and standard deviation for each of the 19 questions. Subjects were drawn from a randomly selected 15% of the teachers of students with Emotional/Behavioral Disorders (E/BD) in the state of Virginia . The study was done with an elementary-school child who has been described as having a mental disability and a speech language impairment.· He has been diagnosed with Robinow Syndrome and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Through CBI, employees from various service industries come into contact with individuals with mental retardation. This study examined the perceptions of parents, group leaders, and students to see if the students displayed symptoms of attachment disorders. Fifty-three students, twenty-seven parents, and twelve group leaders from a private school participated. Subjects completed a Likert type scale survey including seventeen symptoms of attachment disorders. Subjects were required to answer the extent to which each symptom applied to the student ( eg; very little to very much). The purpose of. this study was to investigate how recent graduates of a special education and an elementary education program perceived their preparation to teach. Sixty-five recent graduates responded to a twenty-two item Teacher Perception Likert-Scale questionnaire regarding their perceptions about their education. The results were analyzed by calculating means for three separate indices within the questionnaire to provide information on overall satisfaction. This was a qualitative study conducted at an employment service organization in Central Virginia. The researcher examined.supervisor for perceptions of gender bias on the vocational training of client employees, through the use of interviews and observation. Four interviews were conducted with supervisors at the employment service organization. Results indicated three themes: gender roles are changing so no gender bias exists, placed by interest into jobs, and no physical strength requirement. A constant time delay procedure was used to teach two students with moderate mental retardation how to purchase food at local fast food restaurants and snacks at a local convenience store. Students were taught to purchase the items using paper money and were required to determine the amount due by locating the next dollar up amount on a number line. A 5-second time delay was used in teaching the subjects these purchasing skills. Training was evaluated with a multiple probe design across settings. The subjects in this study were 129 general educators from elementary schools in Virginia. These subjects all had at least one student with learning disabilities in the classroom. A researcher-developed, three part survey was used to collect the data . The survey examined relationships among factors influencing teachers' decisions to make accommodations and the actual accommodations that were employed in the classroom.
The results revealed several accommodations which were frequently implemented in the classroom by the general educators. These teachers often gave oral tests to students with learning disabilities, allowed the students to work in pairs, and individualized the assignments …
