The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the 1:1 initiative on school-wide performance level percentages among secondary school students in the social sciences. The 1:1 initiative, where every student has a laptop, tablet, or portable electronic device, is a part of the 21st-century learning model. Twenty-first century learning is a model that teaches students to thrive in today’s society with critical thinking skills and digital literacy. The purpose of this qualitative transcendental phenomenological study was to seek understanding as to the impact of an established 1:1 technology program on the educational experiences of high school students. The theories guiding this study were constructivism, based on the works of Lev Vygotsky and Jean Piaget, and connectivism, based on the work of George Siemens. Three high schools in a mid-Atlantic state with established 1:1 technology programs were identified as sites for this study. Participants included five high school students from each school site.
