Material Format Preference Of Music Faculty At Kennesaw State University, A. Carey Huddlestun
Faculty Articles
Historically, collection development has focused on what material to purchase. However, with the maturation of web-based music audio databases, web-based video databases, online music scores, electronic books and reference material, and commercial audio/visual streaming services, the format of material is also now an important collection consideration. Faced with difficult collection development decisions due to the Performing Arts Library’s (PAL) limited space being filled beyond capacity with physical material, PAL librarians at Kennesaw State University (KSU) sought to discover the material and format preference of music faculty. This was done to see if faculty would use digital material, requiring no physical …
Deep Learning For Human Microrna Precursor Prediction: A Systematic Literature Review, Martina Ojonah
Deep Learning For Human Microrna Precursor Prediction: A Systematic Literature Review, Martina Ojonah
Master of Science in Information Technology Theses
The discovery of MicroRNA (miRNA) sparked medical breakthroughs, leading to the development of drugs/vaccines and biomarkers for some terminal diseases such as cancer. Due to the relatively short length of microRNAs, research has shown that discovering them on their own is a difficult task; thus, the focus has shifted to predicting precursor miRNAs, which are longer than miRNAs. Computational techniques evolve because of flaws discovered in existing designs, discoveries, and the desire to make the process as seamless as possible. Most researchers in recent studies indicated that the use of few input features and a lack of domain understanding of …

Exploring The Biofilm Of Candida Auris As It Relates To Persistence In Clinical Setting And Susceptibility To Antimicrobials, Bethany Butts
Master of Science in Integrative Biology Theses
The rapid rise of drug-resistant pathogens is a global health concern. Known pathogens are acquiring resistance to many commonly used drugs, while new drug-resistant pathogens are emerging. These resistant pathogens are responsible for many healthcare-associated infections (HAI) [1, 2]. Candida auris is among these emerging drug-resistant pathogens, first described in 2009. The CDC labels C. auris at the highest level of global public health threat [3,4]. Effective methods of decolonization and control of the organisms have yet to be established, as it is resistant to many agents used for microbial control. Recent research has found that C. auris has the …

A Distance-Based Clustering Framework For Categorical Time Series: A Case Study In Episodes Of Care Healthcare Delivery System, Lauren Staples
A Distance-Based Clustering Framework For Categorical Time Series: A Case Study In Episodes Of Care Healthcare Delivery System, Lauren Staples
Doctor of Data Science and Analytics Dissertations
Understanding how compensation structures influence overall healthcare costs is a central issue in health economics. Episodes of Care (EoC) is a compensation structure that bundles payments for healthcare interventions that belong to a well-defined health event. Since the variation of clinical pathways can drive the cost of healthcare, this research uses sequences of medical billing codes in Perinatal Episodes of Care claims data to study the extent of that variation by equating it to the number of reproducible clusters found. This research proposes a methodological framework to detect reproducible clusters in an unsupervised problem where the true number of clusters …

Mhealth: A Mediating Tool For Community Health Workers’ Transformation In Armed Conflict Zones, Nakama David, Samuel C. Avemaria Utulu, Jennifer Tyndall
The African Journal of Information Systems
Communities affected by armed conflict are striving to provide access to effective healthcare services in countries like Nigeria, where there exists a fragile healthcare system with an acute deficit of manpower and resources. This fragility has a negative impact on child health service delivery. mHealth is considered an excellent platform for enhancing/transforming the activities of community health workers (CHWs) in the delivery of effective health services. This paper aims to explore how mHealth implementation mediates and transforms the activities of CHWs in an armed conflict setting using activity theory as a lens. An interpretive research methodology was used, and the …
Nursing Management To Reduce Hospital Readmissions After Percutaneous Coronary Interventions- Integrative Review, Jeena S. Daniel, Doreen Wagner
Nursing Management To Reduce Hospital Readmissions After Percutaneous Coronary Interventions- Integrative Review, Jeena S. Daniel, Doreen Wagner
Master of Science in Nursing Final Projects
Abstract
Percutaneous coronary interventions (PCIs) are considered life-saving techniques in the event of myocardial infarction and remain the standard of care for managing acute heart attack. Given the success of the procedures, decreased complications, and the economic advantage over open-heart surgery, coronary interventions continue to be the preferred treatment choice. However, amidst the growth and success of these procedures, readmissions after percutaneous coronary interventions have been identified and still prevail among hospitals. Hence, the goal was to conduct an integrative review to identify and synthesize literature on the interventions that help reduce readmissions after percutaneous coronary interventions and illuminate nurses' …

Graph Based Management Of Temporal Data, Alex Fotso
Graph Based Management Of Temporal Data, Alex Fotso
Master of Science in Computer Science Theses
In recent decades, there has been a significant increase in the use of smart devices and sensors that led to high-volume temporal data generation. Temporal modeling and querying of this huge data have been essential for effective querying and retrieval. However, custom temporal models have the problem of generalizability, whereas the extended temporal models require users to adapt to new querying languages. In this thesis, we propose a method to improve the modeling and retrieval of temporal data using an existing graph database system (i.e., Neo4j) without extending with additional operators. Our work focuses on temporal data represented as intervals …

The Role Of African Proverbs In Advancing Information Systems Research, Tiko Iyamu
The Role Of African Proverbs In Advancing Information Systems Research, Tiko Iyamu
The African Journal of Information Systems
Despite the richness of African proverbs, they have been muted in information systems (IS) research. This explicitly contributes to the lag in developing information systems and technology solutions for African people by African researchers in African terms. It is on this basis that two related objectives were formulated: (1) to examine the role which African proverbs can play in further advancing IS research, and (2) to understand how the concept can be employed to indigenize IS research. Qualitative data were collected from different sources, and the dimension of social change from structuration theory was employed to examine the role African …
